Titration Lab
Purpose: To find the average molarity of NaOH.
Pre-Lab:
1. Standardization is the process of determining the exact concentration of a solution.
2. A primary standard is a reagent that is extremely pure, stable, has no water of hydration,
and has high molecular weight.
3. C8H5KO4 ; 204.22 g/mol
4. By the term accurately weight approximately 4 grams g of NaOH it means measure to
two decimal spaces.
5. HC8H4O4- + OH- = C8H4O42- + H2O
6. H+ + OH- = H2O
7. A NaOH solution is used to titrate a KHP solution and acetic acid solution.
Procedures:
Refer to handout Titration Lab distributed by Mr. Morgan on March 8, 2017. No changes were
made.

NaOH

1. The average concentration of NaOH is 1.02.

2. The percent of acetic acid is 5%.
3. If the buret was filled with standard NaOh then the concentration of the NaOH solution
will decrease. As a result more solution is needed to titrate KHP to equivalence point.
4. If extra water was added to the 0.6 sample of KPH it would have no effect to the outcome
of the lab. In the experiment, the NaOH solution was used to titrate the KHP solution. As
the solution reached the equivalence point the sided of the flask was rinsed with distilled
water to get rid of any solids that was stuck to it. Even if extra water was added it would
not affect the outcome because there is still the same number of moles of KHP.
5. The indicator will show that the solution is still acidic because it would require less
NaOH solution to reach the equivalence point. It would also require less solution.
6. If there was a bubble that passed through the buret it would affect the outcome of the
volume and thus changing the data.
7.
