I. Introduction
Integration of Multiple Subject Areas in the
Performance Task of Students in Grade 10

English is one of the most widely used

languages around the world. It is also an
advantage if you can speak the language
fluently. This is the reason why at CAA Senior
High School, we would like our students to
become confident and competent to
articulate it in preparation to the world of
work.

In the conduct of the daily lesson of the

teachers in Oral Communication and English
for Academic Purposes (EAPP), in the early
part of the school year, they observed that
most of the students had a hard time
expressing themselves and in the application
of the English subject. Thru the initiative of
the English Teachers they started to identify
the prevailing difficulties of each student of
ABM and GAS in the four (4) macro skills
namely, listening, reading, writing and
speaking. To further validate this impression,
they conducted a need assessment tests to
quantify students with difficulties in each
macro skills to the Accountancy, Business
and Management (ABM) and General
Academic Strand (GAS) students for the SY
2016 - 2017.

Results of such assessment were, most

of the students have poor command of the
English language, low in listening skills, had a
dissatisfactory speaking and reading
comprehension. Written assessment also
shows that they had a limited vocabulary that
results to low if not lack self-confidence. The

good thing about these findings is that, the

students are aware of their own weaknesses
and willing to learn and be trained to
improve. Upon confirmation, the EA class
was established and a professional
development training for teachers in topics to
be discussed in English A class was formed in
response to the need of our students. A
twice a week classes was also arranged and
later, the course EA was introduced initially to
the students of ABM and GAS as an elective.
It aims to level up the proficiency of students
in the spoken language, develop their
confidence and in totality, their personality.

This study attempted to determine the

basis of intervention and further develop a
concise and functional EA curriculum and
subsequently the preparation of EA modules.
If after the initial introduction of the course to
the first semester and it improved the
performance or the communication skills of
the students in ABM and GAS Strand and
gather a positive response, we hope that it
will extend its horizon to the other strand like
Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL)
Program whom we see would also benefit in
course for they are the one who will
immediately undergoing an interview when
they apply for work.

II. Research Method

The research employed the qualitative research method in

interpreting the data gathered.

Research Design

The researchers used the qualitative type of

research. This type of research gives more in-

depth study since the data is rich and less able

to be generalized. The study emerges as it

unfolds.

Respondent of the Study

There are 200 respondents among Grade 11

students in Las Pinas City National Senior High School-

CAA Campus.

Data Collection Technique

The data collection technique that the

researchers used is through survey. It is a

prompting process used in eliciting and probing responses

from participants and informants. Survey gives

accurate screening making the interviewed

individual unable to provide false information.

It can capture the persons facial expression,

no doubt that the survey is a good way of

collecting data.

Sampling Technique

The sampling technique that the

researchers utilized is Convenience sampling. It

is a specific type of non-probability

sampling method that relies on data collection

from population members who are

conveniently available to participate in study

III. Work Plan

All financial requirements will be

provided by the Captain Albert National
High School through the prescribed school
funds and complemented by this writer.

Findings
Based on the test administered test to Grade
11 students of LPCNSHS before and after the
implementation of English A, an evident increase
of score is present.

The same test has been administered to the

section. Thus, the scores reflected can be compared
and be a basis of the observation of the success of
the program.

Recommendation

The research then recommends the teachers and

administrators of Captain Albert Aguilar National High
School to:

1. Implement English A as a an elective subject.

2. Assess the students and classify them according to
their needs regarding the macro skill of English.
3. Assign specificc teachers to cater the various needs
of the students.
4. Develop a module for the English A elective
subject.
