The discovering of composition of light is a question before where many

scientist before are debating whether it is made up of particles in favor to Newtons

Corpuscular theory or made of waves like in the wave phenomenon of Hygens. For
100 years, Newtons corpuscular theory was favored due to the prestige of its
motivator and insufficient support for its rival idea which is wave phenomenon. It is
the common believe before not until in 19th century where Young and Fresnel made
an experiment resulted to a phenomenon of the interference and diffraction of light
by passing it through slits and which can be only explained by the wave theory. This
theory is strengthened by the discovery of James Clerk Maxwell in 1864 that light is
a form of electromagnetic radiation which implies electric field and magnetic field
are propagated together to form light and her.
Light is composed of waves in due to its nature, it possesses unique
characteristics like diffraction. Diffraction can be done by sound or light. This
phenomenon occurs when light with a unique wave crest or pattern passes through
a small opening or slit but now with a new wave pattern compared to its former and
as if it is new source. It is commonly different from a particle beam where it passes
through the slit and the amount released or passed is limit by the opening or slit
and the same original pattern is retained. Light also can undergoes the process of
interference. Interference can be categorized as constructive or destructive
interference. Constructive interference is formed when two similar waves of light
that are in phase are combined, forming a wave with higher amplitude. On the
other hand, Destructive interference is formed when two waves of light that are out
phase, meaning they are completely the opposite in pattern which result to their
cancellation that results to a line rather than an oscillating wave. In a screen,
constructive interference is visible as bright light where the color depends on the
light source while the destructive interference is not visible and most likely the not
lighted part. The interference pattern on the screen is characterized by the
alternative pattern of constructive and destructive interference.
