In November 2006, according to the data from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Tourism
revealed that the number of arrivals at the Phnom Penh International Airport increased by
20.45% -from 45,146 to 54,380 persons, against last months, and this number also represented
25.98% up that of the same period previous year, which made up of 43,164 persons, the number
of arrivals at the Siem Reap International Airport went up by 34.93% -from 50,127 to 67,636
persons, and marked a 41.25% up compared to same period previous year, which amounted to
47,883 persons. But, the number of arrivals by land and boat declined by 0.42%, against last
months, from 50,798 to 50,587 persons, and reflected an increase by 7.76% over that of the
same period previous year, totalling 46,946 persons.
In November 2006, according to the data from the Ministry of Planning reported that, inflation
decrease by 0.96%, compare to last months. Commodity prices on local markets presented a
decreased. Of which, food prices reportedly a decreased for example, the second quality rice
price fell by 0.85% -from 1,170 to 1,160 riels/kg, Pork with fat went down by 2.26%-from
9,080 to 8,875 riels/kg, first quality beef price went down by 1.13% -from 17,800 to 17,600
riels/kg, mud fish (large) declined by 13.39% -from 12,700 to 11,000 riels/kg, gasoline price
decreased by 1.22% -from 4,100 to 4,050 riels/litre, and diesel fell by 1.52% -from 3,300 to
3,250 riels/litre. Overall, the annual inflation rate based on 12 months year on year in
November 2006 posted 3.23%.
In November 2006, according to the report from the Ministry of Commerce and World Bank
showed that, the most main commodity prices on the international markets presented some mix
price compared to those of preceding month. For example, gold price in Hong Kong, rose by
7.17% -from 585.8 to 627.8 US$/ounces, oil brent price in London, UK increased by 0.17% -
from 58.4 to 58.5 US$/barrel, log price in Malaysia appreciated by 4.36 -from 245.3 to 256.0
US$/m3, and coffee price in London, UK went up by 2.17% -from 1,657 to 1,693 US$/ton. But,
the second quality rice price in Bangkok, Thailand fell by 0.55% -from 274.8 to 273.3 US$/ton,
and rubber price in Singapore decreased by 10.90% -from 1,862 to 1,659 US$/ton.
In November 2006, generally, the US dollar position continued to mix price against the major
currencies in the world markets. For example, Philippines Peso increased by 0.13% -from 52.53
to 52.46 Peso/dollar, Korean won went up by 0.20% -from 998 to 996 won/dollar, Vietnamese
dong rose by 0.01% -from 15,920 to 15,919 dong/dollar, and the Cambodian riel also increased
by 0.91% -from 4,164 to 4,126 riels/dollar. But, Thai bath decreased by 0.03% -from 39.83 to
39.84 baht/dollar, and Japanese yen decreased by 0.18% -from 114.23 to 114.44 yen/dollar.
In November 2006, according to the data from National Bank of Cambodia revealed that the
total liquidity went up by 2.54% -from 6,523 to 6,689 billion riels, compared to previous
month. This was contributed mainly to the increase of foreign currency deposit rose by 3.10% -
from 4,870 to 5,021 billions riels, domestic credit (stock) went up by 3.77% -from 2,467 to
2,560 billion riels, credit to the private enterprises increased by 2.24% -from 3,390 to 3,466
billion riels, and currency outside banks rose by 0.99% -from 1,521 to 1,536 billion riels. Net
official reserve including gold in November 2006 could sustain more than 2.4 months of
retained imports of goods and services.
In November 2006, according to the data from the Customs and Excise Department of the
Ministry of Economy and Finance reported that total value of import increased by 5.26% -from
396.09 to 416.93 billion riels compared to previous month. Of which, the import of soft drink,
beer and alcohol appreciated by 8.16% -from 3.92 to 4.24 billion riels, the and the import of
vehicle, motorbikes and spare part rose by 3.73% -from 79.35 to 82.31 billion riels, the import
of petroleum went up by 24.28% -from 65.88 to 81.88 billion riels. But, the import of medicine
decreased by 22.73% -from 17.82 to 13.77 billion riels, the import of cigarettes fell by 51.48% -
from 41.22 to 20.00 billion riels, and the import of ingredients declined by 10.21% -from 21.16
to 19.00 billion riels.
In November 2006, total value of export went down by 3.11% - from 226.36 to 219.33 million
dollars compared to last months. Of which, the export of clothing decreased by 3.64% -from
215.31 to 207.48 millions dollars, the export of shoes fell by 11.04% -from 5.25 to 4.67
millions dollars, the export of other textile products went down by 1.63% -from 1.23 to 1.21
million dollars, and export rubber decreased by 63.86% -from 0.83 to 0.30 million dollars.
In November 2006, the public finance reflected a decrease, by 4.97% compared to previous
month. Of which, current revenue amounted 237.87 billion riels, decreased by 3.10% against
last months, totalling 245.48 billion riels. This number also represented 33.22% up that of the
same period previous year, totalling 178.55 billion riels, and non-tax revenue fell by 32.71% -
from 51.11 to 34.39 billion riels. But, tax revenue increased by 4.69% -from 194.37 to 203.48
billions riels. In the same time, the current outlays on cash basis accounted for 225.48 billion
riels, representing an increase of 13.82% against 198.10 billion riels last months. Overall,
current budget balance in first 11 month in 2006, posted a noticeable surplus of 322.75 billion
riels.
