COMMENTS RESPONSE SHEET TO MM-ZTK-1A-ZPQ-M002-CAL-0012 Calculation for
Glycol Carbon Filter F-4770 / F-4870

1. Set-on nozzle is not allowed as ZGS-MEC-101. for set on nozzle, the plate material shall meet through
thickness properties as per ASTM A770 S3 (with a minimum area reduction of 35%). Set-on nozzle shall be
use only with agreement of COMPANY

COMART: Requirement for plate material ASMT A770 S3 is not applicable, the nozzle is installed on a
forging.

2. GA drawing specify cover weight is 1500 kg

COMART: the weight indicated in calculation does not consider weight of welded appurtenance,
weight indicated in the drawings consider also a safety margin for the sizing of the lifting tools for top
cover.

3. To confirm the BCD is still the same even though the OD is changed.

COMART: Confirmed

1. TARGET OF ANALISYS

1.1 Mechanical design condition:

Design pressure: 10 bar(g)
Design temperature: -29 / +121 C
Corrosion allowance: //

1.2 Calculation Code: ASME VIII Div. 1 Ed. 2010

1.3 Drawing number: 4699 rev. 2

1.4 References:
Target of analysis is the evaluation of local stresses due to the pressure load applied on the
inside surface of the cover.
In detail following conditions have been considered :

External vessel diameter 1516 mm

Vessel thickness 8 mm

The stress analysis is carried out by means of the finite element method supplied by
COSMOS.
Figure 1 show the model.

2. MATHERIAL CHARATERISTICS

Properties:
Elasticity modulus, tensile strength, yield strength and other mechanical characteristics at design
temperature are defined by User adopting values from ASME II Part. D as specified as
following:

3. MESH & SOLVER INFORMATION

For the mesh it has been used a solid element with 4 nodes, table below show the mesh
characteristic of models:

Mesh information
Mesh type: Standard
Automatic transition: Active
Smooth surface: Active
Element size: 7 mm
Quality: High
Number of elements: 102021
Number of nodes: 155054

Solver information
Quality: High
Solver type: FFEPlus

Figure 2 show the mesh.

4. LOAD INFORMATION

A pressure of 10 bar has been applied to the inner side of vessel, a tensile load, obtained from
the flange calculation, is applied on the eye bolt.

Figure from 3 and 4 show the boundary condition and the direction considered.

5. STRESS RESULT

Following ASME VIII Div. 2, Appendix 4 the maximum shear theory (TRESCA) max as
failure index was used.
It will be taken into account the following characterization of stress:

_ General Membrane Pm defined as average primary stress across solid section, excludes
discontinuities and concentrations, produced only by mechanical loads.

_ Local Membrane PL defined as average stress across any solid section, considered
discontinuities but not concentrations, produced only by mechanical loads.

_ Bending Pb defined as component of primary stress proportional to distance from centroid of

solid section, excludes discontinuities and concentrations, produced only by mechanical loads.

_ Secondary Membrane plus Bending Q defined as self-equilibrating stress necessary to satisfy

continuity of structure, occurs at structureral discontinuities, can be caused by mechanical load
or by differential thermal expansion, excludes local stress concentrations.

_ Peak F defined as
(1) Increment added to primary or secondary stress by a concentration (notch)
(2) Certain thermal stresses wich may cause fatigue but not distortion of vessel shape.

The following combination of stress components and allowable stress limits of stress intensities
may be considered as per code:

Material: SA 240 Tp. 316/316L

Pm k * Sm = 138 MPa
PL 1.5 * k * Sm = 207 MPa
PL + Pb 1.5 * k * Sm = 207 MPa
