In February 2007, according to the data from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Tourism
revealed that the number of arrivals at the Phnom Penh International Airport decreased by
10.01% -from 55,995 to 50,390 persons, against last months, and this number also represented
23.46% up that of the same period previous year, which made up of 40,815 persons, the number
of arrivals at the Siem Reap International Airport decreased by 9.81% -from 84,309 to 76,041
persons, and marked a 15.29% down compared to same period previous year, which amounted
to 89,773 persons and the number of arrivals by land and boat declined by 2.04%, against last
months, from 61,309 to 60,059 persons, and reflected a decrease by 1.15% over that of the
same period previous year, totalling 60,758 persons.
In February 2007, according to the data from the Ministry of Planning reported that, inflation
increase by 0.26%, compare to last months. Commodity prices on local markets presented a
increased. Of which, food prices reportedly an increased for example, the second quality price
up 0.43% -from 1,160 to 1,165 riels/kg Dressed chicken went up by 0.21%-from 11,675 to
11,700 riels/kg, mud fish (large) increased by 0.26% -from 9,475 to 9,500 riels/kg, and
watercress price up by 1.30% -from 1,150 to 1,165 riels/kg. while, gasoline price was remain
stable at 3,750 riels/litre. But, diesel fell by 1.61% -from 3,100 to 3,050 riels/litre. Overall, the
annual inflation rate year on year in February 2007 posted 2.89%.
In February 2007, according to the report from the Ministry of Commerce and World Bank
showed that, the most main commodity prices on the international markets presented up price
compared to those of preceding month. For example, the second quality rice price in Bangkok,
Thailand rose by 1.54% -from 286.6 to 291.0 US$/ton, rubber price in Singapore increased by
9.72% -from 2,109 to 2,315 US$/ton, gold price in Hong Kong, rose by 5.31% -from 631.2 to
664.7 US$/ounces, oil brent price in London, UK increased by 6.45% -from 54.3 to 57.8
US$/barrel, and steel rebar price in United State up by 8.33 -from 450.0 to 487.5 US$/m3. But,
the sugar price in London, UK went down by 3.48% -from 241.4 to 233.0 US$/ton.
In February 2007, generally, the US dollar position continued to mix price against the major
currencies in the world markets. For example, Philippines Peso increased by 1.97% -from 49.20
to 48.23 Peso/dollar, Thai bath increased by 5.29% -from 35.95 to 34.05 baht/dollar,
Vietnamese dong rose by 2.37% -from 16,678 to 16,283 dong/dollar. But, Korean won went
down by 0.96% -from 941 to 950 won/dollar, Japanese yen fell by from 119.12 to 120.82
yen/dollar and the Cambodian riel also decreased by 0.05% -from 4,060 to 4,062 riels/dollar.
In February 2007, according to the data from National Bank of Cambodia revealed that the total
liquidity went up by 4.36% -from 7,299 to 7,617 billion riels, compared to previous month.
This was contributed mainly to the increase of foreign currency deposit rose by 4.74% -from
5,549 to 5,812 billions riels, domestic credit (stock) went up by 4.52% -from 2,724 to 2,847
billion riels, credit to the private enterprises increased by 4.86% -from 3,748 to 3,930 billion
riels, and currency outside banks rose by 2.35% -from 1,614 to 1,652 billion riels. Net official
reserve including gold in February 2007 could sustain more than 2.6 months of retained imports
of goods and services.
In February 2007, according to the data from the Customs and Excise Department of the
Ministry of Economy and Finance reported that total value of import decreased by 11.96% -
from 446.93 to 393.49 billion riels compared to previous month. Of which, the import of steel
fell by 12.54% -from 19.22 to 16.81 billion riels, the import of cigarettes decreased by 17.41% -
from 37.92 to 31.32 billion riels, the import of electrices decreased by 33.20% -from 5.06 to
3.38 billion riels, the and the import of vehicle, motorbikes and spare part decline by 29.36% -
from 82.72 to 58.43 billion riels, and the import of food and ingredients declined by 14.45% -
from 22.00 to 18.82 billion riels. But, the import of beer and soft drinks went up by 68.41% -
from 3.83 to 6.45 billion riels.
In February 2007, total value of export went up by 5.90% - from 230.64 to 244.25 million
dollars compared to last months. Of which, the export of clothing increased by 3.24% -from
212.64 to 219.52 millions dollars, and export rice increased by 55.55% -from 0.18 to 0.28
million dollars. But, the export of other textile products went down by 5.17% -from 1.16 to 1.10
million dollars, the export of fishing products decline by 37.38% -from 4.36 to 2.73 millions
dollars and the export of shoes fell by 15.18% -from 8.30 to 7.04 millions dollars.
In February 2007, the public finance reflected a decrease, by 2.08% compared to previous
month. Of which, current revenue amounted 252.64 billion riels, decreased by 2.08% against
last months, totalling 258.01 billion riels. This number also represented 33.29% up that of the
same period previous year, totalling 189.53 billion riels, and tax revenue decreased by 2.62% -
from 222.48 to 216.66 billions riels. But, non-tax revenue rose by 1.24% -from 35.54 to 35.98
billion riels. In the same time, the current outlays on cash basis accounted for 179.95 billion
riels, representing an increase of 54.32% against 116.61 billion riels last months. Overall,
current budget balance in first 2 month in 2007, posted a noticeable surplus of 214.09 billion
riels.
