INTRODUCTION
Basic Machinery Lubrication and Oil Analysis is a 3-day intensive course structured after
the Body of Knowledge specified by the International Council for Machinery Lubrication (ICML) for
Oil Analysis Level I and Machinery Lubrication Technician certification. This course covers the skill
and knowledge necessary for a lubrication technician or tradesperson involved in the installation of
sampling hardware, extracting oil or grease samples, preparation of samples for shipping and anal-
yses, understanding, identifying and troubleshooting lubricant contamination and degradation, ab-
normal machine wear conditions and the recommendation of corrective action. This course is also
applicable to the skill and knowledge necessary for a lubrication technician or engineer to design
lubricant analysis programs, diagnoses abnormal machine or lubricant conditions and recommend
corrective action, understand and communicate the importance of lubricant analysis in a reliability
based maintenance program, deploy lubricant analysis with other predictive maintenance technolo-
gies to reduce component and machine failure rtes and improve machine reliability and provide
guidance to maintenance and operations personnel with regard to effective lubrication programs

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for all personnel involved with lubrication and machine condition monitoring
including:
Maintenance technicians, Maintenance Managers,
Lubrication technicians, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineer,
Motor technicians, Purchasing Managers,
Pump technicians, Chemical Engineers,
Plant Engineer,
Operation Managers,
and anyone interested in lubrication and oil analysis.

Objectives
With the knowledge and skills acquired at the end of the training program, the participants will be
able to:
Diagnose abnormal machine and lubricant conditions to make or advise appropriate decisions
and oversee implementation.
Understand and communicate to managers, supervisors and lube technicians, the role of lubri-
cant analysis in a Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) program.
Deploy proactive lubrication monitoring to reduce component failure rate and extend machine
life.
Manage lubricant analysis information and associated software programs.
Evaluate the performance of outside oil analysis services and make corrective changes where
required.
Use oil analysis to assure lubricant supplier quality conformance.
Develop, deploy and manage procedures for lubricant sampling and analysis.
Select on-site oil analysis instruments as required.
Work within a multi-technology machine condition-monitoring program and facilitate synergistic
integration.
Financially rationalize the lubricant analysis program.
