Another solvent that can be used is GE Spec 05811, which identifies a material
called Toluol or Toluene,
r Finishes air dry at room temperature, however dry-time can be reduced by
-.jforce drying at up to 150 deg. F for 15-20 minutes depending on part size,
preceded by a 10 minute flash period.

(1) Film consisting of 1.0 - 2.0 mils of coating A,B,&C. Min. 2.0 mils for D,
E, F if used by itself. Use ground one side Q-Panels, Age all panels for
7 days at 77 deg F before testing.

over a conical mandrel without disbonding or flake-off. (hairline
cracking of the coating does not constitute a failure of this test).

(5) The coating shall be scored through to the steel] substrate prior to

undercutting at the score line,no cracking,no flaking, no blistering
beyond 1/4" from score lines, and at most scattered blistering (1/16 inch
dia.) within 1/4' of score lines.
(6) The gloss shall be flat, 5-12 using a 60 deg. gloss meter for ASOE140A,
B,and C. The gloss for ASOE140D,E,F, shall be 25 +. on a 60 deg.meter
The color shall be "A" RED OXIDE, "B" PINK/BEIGE, "C" GRAY, "D"GRAY

TITLE, HIGH SOLIDS PRIMER & SEALER PAINT
-
(1) The coating shall achieve scores no greater than 15 on flame spread, fuel
contribution, and smoke density when applied to 20 gauge stee.
(8) Heldability should demonstrate the same weld through characteristics as
primers currently used.
~\ (9) performance - should demonstrate the same physical and salt spray
properties as achieved with the standard coatings.
(10) Resistivity should be greater than 25 megohms CHS using a graco meter.
(11) Topcoat / holdout/adhesion test - 1. prime panels 2. Topcoat after drying
them 1-3-7-16-24-48-96 hours 3. The finish shall not show signs of
lifting, wrinkling or loss of adhesion of the primer or topcoat.
(12) Volatile Content - Use procedure "A" testing ASTM 2369-81
(13) Settling - Should not hard pack during storage and should be easily
dispersed during mixing.
Additional Requirements:
Material shall be free from dirt, metallic particles, gelled particles,
or any other contamination.
Material shall cure into a hard, continuous film free from streaking,
silking, grooves or channels, pockmarking, and any other film imperfections.
‘Acceptance Plan:
When requested on the purchase order or otherwise specified, the supplier
shall submit a Certificate of test to the QUALITY ENGINEER of General Electric
Transportation Department. This Certificate shall be in triplicate showing
results of tests for properties required by this specification. It shall be
furnished (normally) with the shipment and addressed to the (QE) indicated on
the purchase order. It shall contain the GE TSBO Dept. specification number,
the drawing number ,the purchase order number, the quantity and the batch or
lot number, viscosities, Zahn, VOC, % volatiles, % non-volatiles by weight,
wt/gallon, and the physical test results.
Final approval shall be based upon factory trial and qualification
testing of the material by TS6O.
The manufacturer or supplier shall not change the composition of the
material approved and furnished to this specification without prior know-
ledge of the GE TSB0 Department.
Packaging and Marking:
All material shall be packed (palletized) to prevent damage or loss
during shipment and storage. Each shipping container shall be legibly marked
with the product code number, the date of manufacture, the shelf life, and the
