1. Define the HAZARD.

A Hazard is a potential source of harm or adverse health effect on a person or

persons.

2. Define the RISK.

A risk is the likelihood that a person may be harmed or suffers adverse health effects
if exposed to a hazard.

3. Define the Risk Assessment.

The overall process of hazard identification, risk analysis, risk evaluation and risk
control is called Risk Assessment.

4. Define the Safety Statement.

5. Describe Safe Working Method Statement(SWMS).

A SWMS is a document that sets out the high-risk construction work activities to be
carried out at a workplace, the hazards arising from these activities and the
measures to be put in place to control the risks. OR
A Safe Work Method Statement is a document that forms part of a work safety plan
to ensure that work is carried out in a safe environment. It can include detailed
instructions on how to operate equipment and information on possible hazards a
worker could come across in their work place.

6. Describe the Confined Spaces.

A confined space also has limited or restricted means for entry or exit and is not
designed for continuous occupancy. Confined spaces include, but are not limited to,
tanks, vessels, silos, storage bins, hoppers, vaults, pits, manholes, tunnels,
equipment housings, ductwork, pipelines, etc.
7. What is meant by Hazardous Chemicals on Human Body?
Exposure to hazardous substances can affect the body in many different ways. Skin
contact, inhalation and ingestion can cause damage.
8. What are the effects of electricity on human body?
Larger currents can cause fibrillation of the heart and damage to tissues.

9. Describe Circuit Overloading.

Electrical circuits overload when more amperage is put across an electrical wire or
circuit than it can handle.

10. Define residual current device (RCD).

A current-activated circuit-breaker used as a safety device for mains-operated
electrical tools and appliances is called RCD.

11. Define fuse and enlist some of its benefits.
Fuse is a safety device consisting of a strip of wire that melts and breaks an electric
circuit if the current exceeds a safe level.
Benefits:

Fuse is cheapest type of protection in an electrical circuit.

Fuse needs zero maintenance.
Operation of fuse is simple and no complexity is involved.
Fuse has the ability to interrupt enormous short circuit current without producing
noise, flame, gas or smoke.
12. Enlist some types of guards.
i. Side Operated
ii.
13. Define sensor and enlist some of its features.
Sensor is a device that detects or measures a physical property and records,
indicates, or otherwise responds to it.
Feature/Characteristic:
i. Accuracy v. Discrimination
ii. Precision vi. Errors
iii. Drift vii. Sensitivity
iv. Linearity viii. Hysteresis (backslash)
14. What is risk management plan to control the risk?
There are four basic ways to handle a risk.
Avoid: The best thing you can do with a risk is avoid/prevent it.

Mitigate: If you cant avoid the risk, you can mitigate it.

Transfer: One effective way to deal with a risk is to pay someone else to accept it for
you. The most common way to do this is to buy insurance.
Accept: When you cant avoid, mitigate, or transfer a risk, then you have to accept it.

15. Describe ongoing (informal) inspections.

16. Describe planned (formal) inspections.

17. Why training of personnel to use PPE is required for control.
