How to Make a Text Header Image with GIMP

1. Create a new Image and set the dimensions of the text header area.
(In this example, we will use a dimension of 600120 pixels)

Note:
To adjust the dimensions of your text header area; you can rescale by selecting Image
Scale Image from the main menu bar, and then setting the dimensions in the Image Size
area.
2. Add the text you want to use for the header using the Text Tool.
(In this example Fake Company)

3. After selecting the Text Tool, choose the font and size for the text in the Text area of
the Tool box. (In this example we set the Font to Script MT Bold, Bold and the size to
73.)
4. The text is now for some special effects! From the menu bar choose Filters and you
will see various filters you can apply.
(In this example, we will try DecorFuzzy Border)

The image will now appear as shown below:


5. You can adjust your header to make the background transparent. To do this, select
Layer Transparency Add Alpha Channel from the main menu bar.

6. Select the Fuzzy Select Tool, which allows you to select sections of contiguous pixels.
We can use this to select and remove the text from its backgound.
7. Click and select the area you want to remove. In this case it will be the background.

8. Now clear the selected area, by pressing Delete button on the keyboard.
The image now has a transparent background and can be saved as a .gif file, which
supports transparency.

9. The saved GIF image file can be added to a table cell of a webpage created in a WYSIWYG
html editor such as KompoZer.
