Comeniuse Projecti Research „Vintage Games“

Methodology
Partner school from Poland designed a questionnaire (see Appendix) where we asked:
 sex
 age
 whether a game is played in town or in the country
 preference according to the game type – mind or logic
 description of a favorite game
Participating students delivered 450 questionnaires in classes and groups, to receive
information from parents and grandparents or other adults. 118 filled questionnaires were
returned. The project team compiled the chart and analyzed the results.
Analysis (see Appendix)
 72 % were female
 The age of the answerers 28 – 72
 average age 44 years
 65 % of people lived in the country during playing games
 89 % preferred movement and running to mind and logic games
 The most popular games (were mentioned most):
• Trihvaa or uka-uka 16x
• Hopscotch 15x
• Kula or hoop or läts 12x
• Hide- and- seek

Each project participant chose one game, translated it into English and prepared to teach it
during the meeting in Poland. As we had 12 students in the team, we, therefore, prepared 12
games.
The project brochure introduces the chosen games as following:
Division: mind games
 Trihvaa or uka (Trihvaa ehk uka)
 Hopscotch (Keks)
 Rotten egg (Mädamuna)
 Robbing ribbons (Lindimäng)

 Pioneer ball (Pioneeripall)
 Potato (Kartul)

Division: outdoor games

As a result of the research on vintages games we found out lots of interesting:

• there are international games which are played in the world (hopscotch, hawk,
hide and seek, blind seeker etc.)
• regarding to geographical differences in the locations of playing games, the
variations have developed independently
