Mrs. Crowther
Garnet Valley High School

Glen Mills, PA 19342

Dear Mrs. Crowther:

The three careers I selected to research were a surgeon, a dermatologist, and an obstetrician. I
decided to choose these careers because of my interests, strengths, and because of the results
from Myers-Briggs and the Interest Inventory. In and out of school I am always interested in
learning about medicine and about the human body. Therefore in school, I enjoy to take science
and math courses and they tend to be my strengths in school also. Also, I always want to help
people and make people feel better whether it is a family member, friend, or co-worker. After
taking the Myers-Briggs test my results showed that I am a caregiver which has traits of being
warm-hearted, conscientious, cooperative, and loyal. In addition, I got results that told me I
would fit the role as a nurse, teacher, administrator, child caregiver, physician, and a counselor.
Similarly, when I got my results back from the Interest Inventory I scored highest in social and
investigative. This means that I have strengths in communicating, teaching, interacting, helping
others, extensive thinking, and searching for facts. As a result, I found that careers that suit me
are a midwife, registered nurse, dermatologist, surgeon, acupuncturist, and a marriage/family
counselor. In conclusion, I found that from all of my results careers that would best suit me are
ones that involve interacting and helping people.

A surgeon, dermatologist, and an obstetrician all are jobs that I researched and further
information on. For these careers my work style is very similar in that I am good with dealing
with people, I work hard at what I do, I am motivated, and I am able to multi-task. For a
dermatologist in the next five years, I would envision myself still being in medical school
studying for medicine. Then in ten years, I would most likely still be in school doing my core
training pathway of my choice. If I were to follow the path of a surgeon in five years I would just
be starting my medical school at a college studying biomedical science. Next, in ten years I
would be at the beginning of my internship or I would be just starting my residency. In the next
five years as an obstetrician, I would still be in medical school studying medicine. After that in
ten years, I would be trying to get my masters degree in dermatology. For all of these careers,
my personality type would fit very well. Lastly, I am able to work under pressure, I would
always be caring for my patients, and I would always be optimistic.

For all of these careers, I would find them to be very interesting because I enjoy learning about
the body and what the body can do. Although, the one that I would find the most interesting
would be a surgeon because it is much more hands on and complex than the other two careers.
The career I would find the least interesting would be a dermatologist because it doesnt have a
wide range of things I would encounter at work. In addition, I would be very satisfied in all of
these jobs because I would have something to do all the time and I would be doing many
intriguing things at work every day. For all of these careers if I would decide to pursue one of
them I would have to start out by deciding where I would want to do my four-year pre-medical
school. One career I may consider would be an obstetrician, but I am uncertain if I would enjoy
the job as much as I would like. The one career I would want to pursue the most and I would be
the happiest in would be a surgeon. The reason being is that I would be very hands on, I would
interact a lot with my patients, there are so many different cases I could deal with, and I want to
help people and allow them to live a healthier longer life. As a result, I am glad for doing this
career search so I was able to narrow down the jobs I am most interested in pursuing in my
future.

Sincerely,

Morgan Maugans
