Dear Ms. Fellman,

I am interested in the position of full time Dental Hygiene Assistant Professor at Los Rios
Community College District recently posted on the CDHEA website. I am currently a master
candidate of the Master of Science in Dental Hygiene Program at the University of California,
San Francisco. My research focuses on problem-based learning, an alternative teaching method
that may enhance students ability to integrate classroom knowledge to clinical practice.
Together with the leadership skills, teaching skills and classroom technologies I learned from
graduate school, my qualification is aligned with what you are looking for.

During graduate school, I received training in curriculum development and gave a lot of
individual and group teaching presentations including both didactic and psychomotor skill.
During these presentations, I used various classroom technologies such as Plickers and Pull
Everywhere not only to engage students in learning, but also to capture the level of
understanding of students with different learning styles. By knowing my students level of
knowledge, I am able to provide appropriate support to promote students success. My
experience in leadership and Myer-Briggs will facilitate students with different backgrounds and
personalities to work collaboratively and to create a positive and supportive learning
environments.

My expertise in problem-based learning will encourage students to engage in learning in a more

interactive, and yet independent manner. Students working in groups will identify what they
need to learn from the problem case and come up with the best solution after independent
research and group discussion. This type of learning style will promote life-long learning and
critical thinking skills that are very important for dental hygiene students in this fast changing
world of dentistry.

With my desire to give back to the community by passing my passion in dental hygiene as a
teacher to the next generation, my experience in leadership skills, classroom technologies, and
problem-based learning will definitely bring positive learning experience and facilitate life-long
learning and critical thinking skills to your students. Please feel free to contact me at
Rosanna.Young@ucsf.edu if you have further questions and to schedule an interview.

Sincerely,

Rosanna Young
Master candidate at UCSF MSDH
