Clinical Objectives
Module A: Clinical Objectives

a. Complete an orientation program to the hospital; to the assigned unit; to hospital


resources.
b. Use the three phases of the nurse-patient relationship with assigned client.
c. Take and accurately record vital signs on assigned client.
d. Administer a bed bath.
e. Making a bed (occupied/unoccupied.)
f. Do basic physical assessment on assigned client and report findings to charge nurse.
g. Administer medications (not IVs) to assigned client.
h. Complete a care plan on an assigned client.
i. Use Hoyer lift.
j. Complete an orientation to post-mortum care.
k. Apply principles of Standard Precautions on assigned client.
l. Document all care given.

Module B-1: Clinical Objectives

a. Transfer a client from bed to chair or chair to bed using proper body mechanics.
b. Use appropriate communication skills considering age and socio-cultural heritage of
client.
c. Do a basic physical assessment on the assigned client and record the findings in the
clients medical record. Develop a plan of care based on these findings.
d. Administer medications (not IVs) to assigned client.
e. Complete a care plan on an assigned client.
f. Apply principles of Standard Precautions on the assigned client.
g. Turn and reposition the client.
h. Collect any specimens ordered according to the hospital/facility protocols.
i. Take and accurately record vital signs on the assigned client.
j. Monitor and record intake and output on the assigned client.
k. Document all care given.

Module B-2: Clinical Objectives

a. Complete an orientation checklist if not already done so.


b. Identify any defense mechanisms the assigned client may be using.
c. Identify any defense mechanisms being used by the student.
d. Complete personal hygiene on the assigned client situation.
e. Use the helping relationship with the assigned client.
f. Administer medications to the assigned client (not IVs)
g. Document all care given.
h. Complete a care plan on an assigned client.

Module C-1: Clinical Objectives

a. Perform range-of-motion exercises on assigned client as appropriate.


b. Develop a care plan for an assigned client using the entire nursing process.
c. Perform intake and output procedures on assigned client as appropriate.
d. Complete admission and/or discharge procedures as possible.
e. Document all nursing care given.
f. Collect urine and/or stool specimens as possible.
g. Maintain medical asepsis as necessary while giving client care.
h. Administer medications (not IV's) to assigned patients.
i. Apply principles of Standard Precautions to the assigned client.

Module C-2: Clinical Objectives

a. Given a clients lab values for arterial blood gases, identify normals, deviations from
normal, and label these deviations as either metabolic/respiratory, alkalosis/acidosis.
b. Reflect on the care plan the nursing interventions appropriate to the client care situation.
c. Administer medication (not IV) to the assigned client.
d. Document all nursing care given.
e. Apply principles of Standard Precautions to the assigned client.

Module D: Clinical Objectives

a. Assess the fluid balance of a variety of clients using daily weight checks, intake and
output records, laboratory reports, and nursing observations.
b. Given a variety of clinical situations of clients at risk, identify nursing interventions to
prevent imbalances of fluids and electrolytes.
c. Document all nursing care given.
d. Apply principles of Standard Precaution to the assigned client.
e. Complete a care plan on an assigned client.

Module E: Clinical Objectives

a. Assist a client to eat a meal using the personal and environmental principles.
b. Measure and record intake and output.
c. As possible, do a glucometer check on a client.
d. As possible, insert and / or irrigate a nasogastric tube.
e. As possible, do a tube feeding.
f. Record all care given.
g. Complete a care plan on your assigned client.
h. Administer medications (not IVs) on your assigned client.
i. As possible, perform wound and / or decubitus care.
j. In post conference discuss the many factors that impact the diets of assigned clients.
k. As possible, insert a urinary catheter.
l. As possible, remove sutures / staples.
m. Apply principles of Standard Precautions to assigned client.

Module F: Clinical Objectives

a. Provide care as possible for a client with a disruption in respiratory functioning.


b. Complete a mini care plan on a client with respiratory dysfunction.
c. Administer medication (not IVs) to assigned client.
d. Document all nursing care given.
e. Apply principles of Standard Precautions on an assigned client.
f. Complete a care plan on your assigned client.

Module G: Clinical Objectives

a. Provide nursing care for a client with a common kidney and / or lower intestinal tract
problem.
b. Complete a care plan on an assigned client.
c. As possible, administer an enema and / or insert a catheter.
d. Perform and record intake and output on an assigned client.
e. Collect urine specimens as ordered on an assigned client.
f. Irrigate a catheter and / or administer medications via catheter as ordered on assigned
client.
g. Complete a teaching plan on a client with an indwelling catheter. May be on assigned
client or a simulated client depending on the circumstances.
h. Administer medications (not IVs) to clients with common kidney and lower intestinal
problems.
i. Apply principles of Standard Precautions to assigned client.
j. Document all nursing care given.
