Dear Members,
Club Officers With June already moving along, I am looking forward to the scholarship dinner and in recognizing our current
graduates and see them continue in their further educational opportunities. These are our future leaders in the
Mike Caravakis community and I know that they will have felt this club helped them along to a brighter future. Hats off the
President entire committee for the continued hard work to make this a success.

Ghassan Najm The Golf outing was again a great day for all the participants. I want to thank John Ashkar, and the Golf
Vice President committee for getting players, sponsors and for making it the great day that it was.

Painting and outside repairs continue on our beautiful building only to be delayed slightly by the wet weather.
Secretary
We will be looking at ways to repair and stop any water leaks going forward as well as power washing and
Lou Najamy repairing the kitchen vent system.
Asst. Secretary
Work at The City Hall continues on the front and is scheduled to be completed soon. All monuments
William Asmar including ours will be carefully reset at the agreed location and will be well visible to the public;
Treasurer Lebanon Day will be scheduled as soon as all construction and improvements at The City hall are completed.

Mark Chory The Memorial day parade was cancelled for the second year, however several ceremonial events continued

News Staff Corner:
The unofficial start of the 2017 summer season was Memorial Day; hope you and your family had a pleasant holiday. More
members are needed to participate in your clubs events. It is through the club events that members can fulfill their obligation
to support and participate as club members, remember being a member is not just paying your yearly dues but actively
participating in activities. Please stay current with all of your clubs functions by reading and remembering all upcoming
events, also keep in mind there are reservation deadlines for certain functions.
The outside wood trim and stucco of your building is looking great with some coats of fresh paint and fixing up! It is still a
work in progress, so please keep the clubs reserved parking spaces opened for the paint crews trucks and equipment.
Over the last few months there has been an increase in monthly newsletters returned to the club for several reasons. Please
update your contact information as soon as possible so that you can receive emails, letters, newsletters, and any other club
communications. Many members have claimed that they were not aware of dates of events or functions being held by your
club, so please see to this issue as soon as possible. One last request if you would like to change your preference for the
monthly newsletter (paper copy or website copy) please send a brief note with your choice to the club at this address

Member News:
Since our last newsletter we have sworn in 2 new members, Augie Deluca as a regular member, and Jose Martinez as a social
member. We welcome them to our membership.
It has been a while since we have mentioned members who have distinguished themselves by going above and beyond what
is considered a good member. We are now reaching out to the Lebanon American Club Members as well as the Ladies
Auxiliary members to submit the names of those members who you think fit this description. Please send your choices to the
club through either of the following methods: email lebanonclub@att.net or mail to Lebanon American Club of Danbury,

Coming soon Heritage Walk work is being done in front of City Hall constructing the new Heritage Walk honoring those
who have helped to make this city what it is today. The Lebanese monument will have a prominent spot in this wonderful
park and will be rededicated at the Lebanon Day Ceremony (date to be set), so keep watching construction as it progresses.
Health and Welfare:
Please keep our ill members in your prayer and notify Pres. Mike Caravakis, whenever a member falls seriously ill by
sending an email to caravakis@aol.com.

Congratulations to Selim Noujaime on his retirement from 16 years of public service as CT State House rep. for the 74th
District, Waterbury. A Roast and Toast, with ~400 in attendance, was held in his honor on May 16th at the Aqua Turf .

LADIES AUXILIARY NEWS by Pres. Ruth Ashkar
CONGRATULATIONS:
To Danbury attorneys Robert and Dianne Yamin, who were recently recognized by receiving WCSU Presidential Medals for
their exemplary professional and public service at the 30th annual WestConn Society luncheon on March 25th. The
WestConn Society is the oldest continuous giving program sponsored by the Western Connecticut State University
Foundation. Bob graduated summa cum laude from WestConn in 1979 and then from Harvard Law School. He was the first
WestConn alumnus to achieve that distinction. Judge Dianne Yamin graduated from Lehigh University and the Mercer
University School of Law. She has been elected Judge of Probate six times. Congratulations again Bob and Dianne!

We have a group of six members that are currently working on revising and updating our LAX by-laws. When they are
ready to present their revisions to the membership, we will have a special meeting to approve the changes. A date has not yet
been chosen, but the telephone committee will notify our members of the specific time and date beforehand. Thank you in
advance for your co-operation.

1. Wednesday, June 7th @ 6:30 PM, the 44th Annual Scholarship Dinner to be held @ the Amber Room. $55/person.
2. Sunday, June 18th following the 10:00 AM liturgy, the Annual Fathers Day/Graduation Breakfast will be held @ St.
Anthonys church hall. Adults, $10/ children under 12, $5. All are welcome.
3. Friday, June 23rd and Saturday, June 24th, the Annual Mid-East Festival will be held on the church grounds of St.
Georges Church.
4. Sunday, July 16th @ 12:00 noon, the 2017 Family Picnic hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary, and chaired by Betty Najm and
Lisa Antous Binette, will be held @ the outdoor pavilion @ Amerigo Vespucci Lodge. Cost is $15 for adults, $5 for
children under 10 years of age, and free for children under 5 years old. This event is open to members, family & friends.
IMPORTANTREMINDERS:
1. Special prayers and a speedy recovery to all our members who may be ill.
2. Please remember to support our advertizing sponsors.
3. Friday night dinners and the once a month Pasta dinners, are posted in the newsletter calendar.
