Goal 12/Awareness
There are 11 sub-targets that make up Global Goal 12. Most to be accomplished by 2030, while
others are supposed to be accomplished by 2020, and some have no date to be accomplished. One
of the sub-targets that I believe is the most important, is: By 2030, substantially reduce waste
generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse. This one basically states that by
2030, us humans should be reducing, reusing and recycling to prevent the amount of waste
generation. This is important, as the amount of waste mankind creates at the moment is starting to
grow and cause problems for us and the environment. If we reduced waste, even by the smallest, we
A
could ensure that all of mankind is able to have access to
something that is healthy to them, and the amount of waste
landing in oceans, that then it turn create a problem to our
environment. Another sub-target that I find is very important is:
By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant
information and awareness for sustainable development and
lifestyle in harmony with nature. This sub-target basically states
that people should know about the issue, and that people who
know about the issue should help inform others about it. (For
B more of the sub-targets visit www.globalgoals.org). This
is exactly what we did, together with my Partner Nienke.
We spent a few days designing and creating for different
posters, to raise awareness about the problem and help
inform all the students and teachers at our school about
everything that is happening in our world today. Our first
poster (A) was about choosing the right bin and helping
to recycle. We added three bins on the side and labelled
them Paper, Cans and General, so that people could get
an idea, and become motivated. By adding the slogan
Choose the Right Bin! we wanted to further extend this
memo, this is the same with the Help Make A Difference quote. Our second Poster (B) was based
more on facts. We added a few quotes and facts in C

Action
To support Global goal #12 (Sustainable Consumption and
Production) I could help Singapore keep their roads and
parks Clean. Keep Clean Singapore is a movement
organised by the Public Hygiene Council. Its key strategy is
to: Empower groups and individuals to take the lead in
driving initiatives that promote cleanliness and creating
opportunities for people to take action to help keep
Singapore clean (Keep Clean SG).
We were also planning to join Food from the Heart a Singapore-based, non-profit organisation that
is working on bridging the gap between Hunger & Food Wastage. One of their Programmes Is called
the Bread programme in which the organisers and other volunteers collect bread from bakeries
and hotels, that were not used throughout the day and package these in small packages. They then
deliver these to people in need of this food. When this movement
started they collected bread from around 37 bakeries, now it has grown
to over 100 bakeries and hotels. Over 1,700 volunteers have assigned
routes and collect bread from these bakeries and hotels, and deliver
them to people in need.
There are many different ways to help out In this programme, check out
their website https://foodheart.org/ to learn more about this amazing
movement.
We also decided to Hang up posters, raising awareness for Global Goal #12 (Sustainable
Consumption and Production), and encouraging others to stand up against food wastage.

20th of May 2017, we met at the visitors center of Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. We were again given
two bags, and walked through Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, cleaning up trash. We walked through
most of the park, only to find that there was little to no trash to be found. This made us quite happy,
as it shows that Singapore is on its way to becoming a greener and healthier environment for us all.
I was however quite surprised by this, as I was expecting quite a lot of rubbish, although we only
found a few cigarette stumps and tissues.

Saturday 20 of May
On Sunday the 28th of June 2017 we went to the clean up on car-free Sunday. This again was
organized for Keep Clean Singapore. In this event, some roads were blocked off to encourage car-
free traveling. We walked along boat quay and picked up trash, we realised that a lot of people go to
pubs at night and leave their trash lying around on the tables, which then get blown away and litter
the floors and bushes surrounding the pubs. This is very bad for the environment. Together we
collected over 16 kg of waste and 11 kg of recyclable waste, that being a whole lot considering the
surface we covered.

Conclusion
This Problem that we are facing could be resolves, if we just informed everyone about the
issue and got them to spread the word and take action and against the issue. We could
implement strategies that would reduce the amount of food people buy and then waste and
make sure everyone works together on making our world a better place for us and our
environment.
