is powering a 150 kW cogeneration system at the Holiday
Inn hotel on Cape Cod in Hyannis, Massachusetts, USA.
Pre-series E2676 E302 engines in several 50 Hz applica-
tions are already successfully in use in Germany, MAN said.
When utilized in heat and power cogeneration, the 160 kW en-
gines are reported to reach an overall efficiency of up to 90%.
The engines are exposed to different loads when used in
the higher frequency of the U.S. power grid. These different
loads need to be tested under real-life conditions, and this
is the scope of the current field test. In total, the test engine
will run for 8000 operating hours. The engine will then be
completely disassembled by MAN for series production ap-
proval. At the same time, a new engine will ensure a seam-
less transition for the system in Massachusetts.
