UNIT 202 PRINCIPLES OF PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT IN ADULT SOCIAL

CARE SETTINGS

Outcome 1 Understand what is required for good practice in adult social care roles:

1.1 Identify standards that influence the way adult social care job roles are carried out:
- Regulation;
- Code of Practice;
- Base standards;
- National Occupational Standards.

1.2 Explain why reflecting on work activities is an important way to develop own
knowledge and skills:
- to provide the best service for those I support, I need to be able to reflect on what
I do and the way I work;
- to examine why and how I practice;
- to identify areas for improvement;
- to develop different ways of working;
- to find new areas of learning.

1.3 Describe ways to ensure that personal attitudes or beliefs do not obstruct the quality
of work:
- I must be aware of my own personal attitudes and beliefs;
- to understand and to be open to others attitudes and beliefs;
- to respect the differences between my own and others personal attitudes and beliefs.

Outcome 2 Understand how learning activities can develop knowledge, skills and
understanding:

2.1 Describe how a learning activity has improved own knowledge, skills and
understanding:
- I will apply theories to practice;
- being involved in new areas of learning;
- to be self-confident;
- trying new ideas.

2.2 Describe how reflecting on situation has improved own knowledge, skills and
understanding:
- the situation means a learning activity. Everything what I do at work is part of a
process of learning. Making mistake, disscuss issues in the course of hand-over or
meetings, using my own successes, training they are ways of learning and improve my
knowledge, skills and understanding.

2.3 Describe how feedback from others has developed own knowledge, skills and
understanding:
- I will identify areas for improvement, I will increase my capacity for problem solving,
this will help me to understand others perspectives.

Outcome 3 Know how a personal development plan can contribute to own learning and
development:

3.1 Define the term personal development plan:


- this is a personal plan where I can identify the areas on which I need to concentrate. I
will set some goals and targets and my manager should be able to help me ensure they are
realistic. Also I will note down the training I want to complete and the skill I want to
gain.

3.2 Identify who could be involved in the personal development plan process:
- my supervisor, my manager, the servise users, carers, advocates, other professionals

3.3 Identify sources of support for own learning and development:


- formal support networks;
- informal support networks;
- supervision;
- appraisal;
- in-house and external training and development.

3.4 List the benefits of using a personal development plan to identify ongoing
improvements in own knowledge and understanding:
- I can focus on what I want to achieve and how to do it;
- increases my own understandingof how to identify my needs;
- I will have evidence of actions I take to improve my knowledge;
- I will be better in my work and I will provide a better support.
