PRESSURECLASSESOFFLANGES
Forgedsteelflanges,accordingtoASMEB16.5,aremadeinsevenprimaryPressureClasses:
EXAMPLEOFPRESSURERATING
Flangescanwithstanddifferentpressuresatdifferenttemperatures.Astemperatureincreases,the
pressureratingoftheflangedecreases.Forexample,aClass150flangeisratedtoapproximately270
PSIGatambientconditions,180PSIGatapproximately400F,150PSIGatapproximately600F,and
75PSIGatapproximately800F.
Inotherwords,whenthepressuregoesdown,thetemperaturegoesupandviceversa.Additional
factorsarethatflangescanbeconstructedfromdifferentmaterials,suchasstainlesssteel,castand
ductileiron,carbonsteeletc..Eachmaterialhavedifferentpressureratings.
