Coesklima Superk

Coesklima Superk is the system for supplying hot and cold

sanitary water and for heating/air-conditioning, made up of
PE-Xb/AL/PE-HD multilayer pipe, mechanical fittings and
pressfittings in brass, with diam. of 14 to 75 mm.
The multilayer pipe combines all the advantages of plastic and
aluminium in a single product: it is strong and resistant to cracks,
corrosion and chemicals; the aluminium core guarantees duration and
safety, and is impermeable to oxygen.
The Coesklima SuperK system is compliant with the Italian standard
UNI 10954.
The Coesklima SuperK programme is non-toxic and perfectly suited to
transporting drinking water and liquid foods (Italian Ministerial Decree
174 -04).

Coestherm

Coestherm is the system of pipes and fittings in random

polypropylene and PP-RCT, with diam. of 16 to 200 mm, for
supplying hot and cold sanitary water and for heating/air-
conditioning, to suit the most demanding needs for strength and
durability.
PP-R is a plastic material which resists cracking even under stress,
as well as corrosion and chemicals. Its molecular composition also
guarantees acoustic insulation and protection against attack by casual
currents.
PP-RCT is characterised by a hexagonal crystalline structure which
conveys a minimum working life of 50 years for pressures of up to
10 bar with temperatures of 70C.
Coestherm pipes are made in compliance with DIN 8077 - 8078 and/or
UNI EN ISO 15874-2 ; while the fittings are compliant with DIN 16962
and/or UNI EN ISO 15874-3.
The Coestherm programme is perfectly suited to transporting water
suitable for drinking and liquid foods (Italian DM 174 -04).

MAXIMUM STRENGTH

Coestherm Hexa Multilayer Pipe offers exceptional

resistance, even at 0C!

Charpy Test

The Charpy test (Fig. 1) measures the resistance of

material, i.e.: its shock absorption capacity.
The greater the amount of energy absorbed, expressed
in Joul, the greater the resistance to shock.
In this way it is possible to test the strength of the pipe,
even at low temperatures.

WELDED COUPLING
The welded coupling technique envisages three types of
welding:

Multi casting
Electric sleeve
Saddle joints
Stabipipe

MULTI CASTING

The Coestherm system is welded using the so-called Heating element

"socket" method: in this way the pipes and fittings are
joined together by overlapping.
The ends of the pipes and the socket of the fittings are Preparation
heated using a heating element with a bush and spindle,
according to the times indicated in the specific table.
The optimum welding temperature for Coestherm c
is 260C ( 5). b
After the heating time, the parts are extracted from the
heating element and immediately coupled axially,
without rotation.
It is important to achieve the correct coupling depth: a) Coupling
the pipe must be introduced as far as the point marked b) Spindle bush
earlier, i.e.: as far as the socket, as indicated in the table. c) Pipe
a
It is advisable to keep the two parts fastened together
for a certain amount of time (about the same as the
heating time). The welded coupling can be subject to
mechanical stress only after the cooling time.
Heating stage
The bush and spindle must be thoroughly cleaned after
every welding operation.

The figures show the sequence of the welding process.

1- Before you do any welding on the Stabipipe pipe, you

have to eliminate the layer of aluminium using the
special cutter.
Depending on the type of welding, the pipe must be
milled with two different depths.

2 - The cutters supplied by COES are fitted for socket

welding. For welding the electric couplings, you have to
remove the setscrews.

3 - Socket welding: milling depth depending on the

diameter.

4 - Welding with electric coupling: milling depth

equivalent to half of the length of the electric coupling.

COUPLING
211
MECHANICAL COUPLING
Inserts with a female thread undergo a heat treatment
process to relax them in order to obtain an optimum
hardness value of 100 Brinell, conveying outstanding
mechanical qualities to the insert.
The particular configuration of the outer surface of the
insert (knurling), allows optimum cohesion between the
brass insert and PP-R, also guaranteeing considerable
resistance to torsion between the two materials.

Coupling instructions

Only use fittings with identical threads for coupling

(see ISO10226).
Do not use fittings with unsuitable conical threading
together with "female" PP-R fittings with a cylindrical
thread.

Hydraulic seal
To create a seal with other metal fittings, use teflon or
similar materials, without using too much.

Connection between PP-R fitting and iron pipe

When coupling with an existing galvanised iron pipe,
connect the PP-R pipe using a fitting with a male
thread, inserting an iron sleeve between them.
Never couple with a fitting with a "female"thread.

Connection between PP-R fitting

and built-in unit.
When coupling a built-in tap and a PP-R pipe, use
"male" fittings, avoiding the use of fittings with "female"
threads and nipples with a conical thread.

changing direction
You have to make sure that the pipe can move freely in You have to calculate the length of the flexible arm of
an axial direction, and in this case if compensation by the pipe by using the formula below in order to achieve

expansion curves. Generally speaking, axial Ls = K d L (mm)
compensators are not suitable for the purpose and
moreover, they are not economic. where: Ls = length of the arm (mm)
d = external diameter of the pipe (mm)
L = change in length (mm)
K = constant depending on the material
used (for PP = 20).

with the formula: The type and frequency of the pipe fastenings are

L = L t & the expansions, if any.
The fixed points must divide the pipe into stretches in
from which we get the length of the flexible arm with which contraction or expansion is possible, without ever
the formula: releasing the expansion on the inserts or fittings.
The guide of these stretches is made using sliding point
Ls = K d L bands. The distance between bands, i.e. the distance
between the support points, depends mainly on the
which represents the sum of the stretches of pipe of the working conditions and on the weight of the pipe
expansion curve (), so: (passing fluid included).
In practice, the distances between the supports shown
Ls = 2L1 + L2 in the table on the next page have proven valid.

The value of L2 is always equal to 1/2 L1. Note: fastening of the pipe must take into account the
expansions and relative axial thrusts.
For pipes exposed to thermal stress that are installed
into chase, you have to bear in mind the possible
mechanical stress transmitted by the pipe to the
structure.

INSTALLATION
217
FIXED POINT POSITION BRACKET
To simplify the construction of PP-R systems and
make them more efficient, COES has made and
patented the fixed point bracket, for fastening
threaded terminals in place.

Position the bracket complete with polystyrene in the

wall excavation at the envisaged heights or in the
position indicated by the fitter.

The surface plates of the bracket (transversal and

longitudinal) must be perfectly calibrated. For this
purpose use a water level and the special support
appendices provided on the polystyrene mould as
reference points.

The installation depth must be about 56 mm from

the finished surface (complete with covering). The
exact reference is given by the reduction shown on
the polystyrene. Secure the bracket (with mortar) in
the central part and on the sides beside the two
polystyrene cylinders, taking care not to obstruct the
vertical passages (above and below).

Remove the polystyrene protection only when you

insert the octagonal fittings. Prevent foreign bodies
from getting into the seats.
Perfect housing of the fittings in the seats is
essential for good installation.

Insert the fittings as shown in the figure; then lock

them with the relevant octagonal ring nut, making
its rounded part coincide with the cylindrical part of
the fitting.

When the job is completed, the finished surface will

coincide with the external faces of the two fittings.
The threaded parts will face the established centre
distance and be aligned for fixing the taps.

HYDRAULIC TEST
Sanitary system

All systems must undergo hydraulic testing.

The pipes must be filled with water and pressurised
before being fitted into the walls.
The pressure gauge must be connected to the lowest
point of the test system.
Use pressure gauges which allow you to read a 0.1 bar
pressure change.
Shut off all the system stoppage devices, run the test at
a pressure of 15 bar and then reduce pressure to
the standard operating value.

Test pressure: 15 bar

Max. operating pressure: 5 bar
Test duration: 2 hours
Change in test pressure: 0.2 bar

Visually inspect all the fittings to check for leaks.

TRANSPORT AND STORAGE

220
TRANSPORT
Avoid untidy transport if the pipes have been removed
from their original packaging (Fig. 1). NO YES

Fig. 1

Avoid dragging them across the ground or against the

walls of the vehicle (Fig. 2). NO YES

Fig. 2

STORAGE
To avoid deformations in time, the maximum stacking
height must not exceed 1.5 metres, whatever their
diameter (Fig. 3).

Max 1,5 mt

Low temperatures
Fig. 3
When temperatures fall close to 0C, Coestherm single

layer pipes tend to become fragile. Consequently it is

always best to bleed pipes when you think that the
water inside might freeze in order to prevent bursting.

Exposure to UV rays

Despite being properly stabilised, Coestherm, suffers

due to exposure to UV rays. It is therefore recommended
that you do not remove them from their packaging if
they are to be stored outdoors.
