A. Description of The Architecture Without Borders.

On todays society, we often found that class difference had greatly influenced
architecture. The contrast between those of the more fortunate and those of the less fortunate
are very obvious. The sad fact is that only those who have the money can have
architecture; This are coupled with gated communities, of which are blatant examples of
urban scale segregation. Such housings which segregate themselves from the environment
have caused many problems to not only their cities, but also to the social environtment.
This segregation impacted the urban space which is divided it into many enclaves and
make it secluded from public. In addition, the group based on social classes separation also
increase social discrepancy and decrease social interaction between another society.
Shouldnt architecture do the exact opposite, that is, help adjoining the differences
into a whole society?
Architecture Without Borders, is an architectural concept that destroys all
segregation and boundaries inside the society, such as Social Status, Cultural Differences,
and Upper-Lower Class Differences.
A learning, where architecture are believed can be used to create unity and adjoin
them who live in difference everyday; A room or shape of architecture that does not limit
oneself to their environment. Then, those of various class, races, and more fortunate-less
fortunate can finally be gathered and meet at one equal place.

B. Description for the Projects Site of Choice.

A representative example of this learning would be Kampung Jawa, a segregated
javanese community right in the middle of Denpasar. A large river spreads inbetween the
community, despite its questionable hygine as the main source of water where the
populace clean themselves. Kampung Jawa fits the definition of a pseudo-slum with its
heterogenic members of Java and native Bali mix.

In one side, a city is considered as the centre of economical growth, but in another
side, a city still left many cliched mistakes such as poverty that leads to the emergence of
various informal sectors and slums. The poverty inside said cities, in truth, werent caused
by material problems such as wealth, fortune, income, et cetera; The problem came from
the minimal, if not non-existent, access to basic city services like clean water, electricity,
and sanitation.
The poor living condition segregated them from their surroundings, unwittingly and
unwillingly. This gave us an idea to develop and redesign that situation. Not only to make
the area experience an interaction with its surroundings, not only to make it inviting for
prospective investors, but also to fix the sanitation and lives through this design.

C. The Method & Process of the Designing

In every design, a site analysis are always required. In this context, we analyzed the
area of Kampung Jawa. We have concluded that the high number of population growth
does not match the size of the space in the area itself. This need of space will be used as a
place for rest, housings, and many others. This is the main factor that guided us humans to
innovate new solutions to triumph over said problem. One of the solution we have come up
with is the construction of multi-storey buildings.
As such, we have also come up with a concept of buildings that could be stacked by
utilizing unused, recycleable materials; One of the examples being metal containers as the
base.
Another method is to solve the persisting problems within the society, which consists of
three main problems of habit, social, and economy. The first problem we should face is to
fix their bad habit in the treatment of environment, sanitation, and the system. Should the
problem disappears, the improved sanitation would invite investors and outsiders to spend
time in Kampung Jawa. By effect, the economy of the area would also grow as more
consumers from outside come in heaps. Finally, this will also influence the social condition
in Kampung Jawa, as they could blend and interact with citizen outside the community.
After our analysis, we continued with designing, both manually and through
computers.
First we focused on a landmark as an icon for the community, and we came up with
bamboo. Bamboos are widely used in the area, from the housings, buildings, and many
others.
The second focus would be on bathrooms. There are no bathrooms at all in the area, as
they do it all on the river running through their Kampung. We also designed a system where
they would use Biofil Water Treatment so they could reuse waters.
The last focus would be portable houses made from used metal containers. These
housing could be stacked on each other or be moved like Legos.
We hope that through this concept, we could erase all borders, adjoin those who are
divided, and change them whole.
