What my grandfather taught me about god and true meaning of

prayer

My grandfather was catolic (as all my family including me was, when I was born). But
his way of aproaching god was very unique.
He actualy never attent mass (religios service) at Sunday as others do. But he still atend
the church every Sunday. After the mass was finished.
He meet in small room in the church with priest there. And they sat down with glass of
wine. He realy now as the priest does what happen when you put together vine and holly
ground-church.

In vino veritasis a Latin phrase that means "in wine, truth

And variation
Wine in the body, heart in the mouth. A drunken mouth speaks the heart's meaning"
What the sober hold in their heart is on the drinker's tongue
When the wine enters, the secret comes out

n the 1770s, Benjamin Cooke wrote a glee by the title of In Vino Veritas. His lyrics (with
modern punctuation):

Round, round with the glass, boys, as fast as you can,

Since he who don't drink cannot be a true man.
For if truth is in wine, then 'tis all but a whim
To think a man's true when the wine's not in him.
Drink, drink, then, and hold it a maxim divine
That there's virtue in truth, and there's truth in good wine![

So sitting there in holy ground with priest with glass of vine after the mass that was his
way of going to church and praying. The jolly way, not so serious.
And as the phrase go
What the sober hold in their heart is on the drinker's tongue
This was realy praying from his heart in the presence of priest and holly ground.
In my child perspective I realy early got what prayer realy is. The open heart, the relaxed
body and mind who reatreat to made the place for open heart and love. And he show me
also the truth that I need years to realize. For praying and be open to god, you need to
step out of your mind. And the quickest way is thru steping out of seriousnes into joy.
When he sitt down with priest, they both step out of seriousnes (priest from seriousnes in
ceremony in mass, and my grandfather from everyday survival chalenges) into jolly
mood, from mind into heart. The perfect place to comunicate with god.

That for me was the esence of the prayer to god, as my grandfather taught me with his
way of treating god and opening up to universe.
Steping out of seriousnes and limitation of the mind and using the vine not to run away
from reality but actualy to step out of ilusionary reality
Into higher realms.
