Strengths of the lesson

Overall, I believe that my Micro teach went very well. I think that choosing a lesson outside of my Social
Studies/Geography major was beneficial because it gave me an insight of how elementary teachers must teacher
other subjects. I also thought it was a really unique and fun way for everyone to learn some words and colors in a
new language. I used my tool of speaking another language to explore a more uncommon micro teach lesson and I
think it worked to my advantage by differentiating and challenging myself. I think that asking questions such as
whether anyone knows a second language was a strong point of my introduction because it grabbed the students
attention, it made them think and it also gave me a background of the students. I believe that one big strength of
my lesson was keeping the students engaged by coloring the animals as we went through the PowerPoint slides.
Not only did this keep them busy considering we were just learning words, it also made them write it out instead
of just listening and responding. Another strong aspect of my lesson was how I provided a word bank on the Exit
Quiz. The quiz would have been much more difficult considering the students had zero background knowledge in
French and would have been too much to expect them to memorize the proper grammar. The objective of the
lesson was to ensure that they knew the difference between masculine and feminine, and knew a base
understanding of farm animals and colors in French. Based on the comments on my feedback sheets, the students
also enjoyed the how my Power Point was set up and the transitions to reveal the names of each animal. This is
one lesson that I could use in the future and can be applicable to not only grade 5 students, but anyone who wants
to learn some French.

Revisions that could be considered

There are definitely some areas in my teaching that I believe need work and improvement. I was fairly nervous
even considering we were only teaching to 4 people. Teaching up there alone is something that I am not used to,
but I know that with time and experience, my confidence will grow as a teacher. One of the comments on my
feedback sheet was to be a little bit louder with my voice. I think at times I can be very articulate and sometimes I
slowly start to lose it and slightly fade away. This is just a confidence piece that I need to work on and will come
with more teaching experience. I would mostly like to work on sounding more enthusiastic and outgoing so that
students know how approachable and fun I can be. Being more enthusiastic in not only my voice, but also being
more expressive and confident with my body language. As for my lesson, I believe that I should have spent more
time with pronouncing the words and ensuring the students can articulate them properly. Even though the specific
outcome of my lesson was focused on writing and reading comprehension, having oral comprehension would help
a lot with their understanding of the words. I also think that I could have asked more effective questions to the
students and incorporated them more into my lesson. It was hard to ask questions in a language course when the
students have no previous knowledge of the language, yet some students had an idea of some words. Looking
back, theres a lot I want to improve on for my teaching career, and Im excited to work towards improving

Overall evaluation of the lesson and next steps

Overall, I met all the requirements and followed the proper criteria provided in the assignment description. I was
very pleased with my lesson, but theres always room for improvement. One of the main areas of teaching I could
have done better was repeating the words more in French so it stuck better in the students heads. I only spent
about 10-20 seconds on each animal and their color, which isnt enough time to really teach someone a word, yet
with the 15-minute time frame it made it hard. One way I could have improved this was to maybe point to one
student and get them to try and sound out the animals name before giving them the proper pronunciation. This
would get the students thinking of what the word might be, as well as hearing the wrong way to say the word (trial
and error). Another way I could have done this was to have less animals and colors, but spend more time on each
of them to ensure the students know both spelling and pronunciation of the words. If I were to do this lesson again
I would shorten the list of animals and go more in depth with both explain and pronunciation the words.
