Brenda Gail
Cutro operated
a daycare center
out of her home
in Richland
County, South
Carolina. In
January 1993,
she claimed her
first victim, four-
month-old Parker
Colson. Cutro
claims that she found the child unresponsive in his crib
and that attempts to save him were unsuccessful. The
autopsy would later attribute his death to sudden infant
death syndrome, and Cutro became a SIDS activist.
When four-month-old Asher Maier was injured five
months later and subsequently diagnosed with shaken
baby syndrome, police began investigating Cutro and
the babys mother. After the death of four-month-old
Ashlan Daniel in September 1993, police began to look
into the possibility that Cutro linked the three cases.
Cutro was found guilty of murdering Daniel in 1994, but
this was overturned four years later. A retrial in 2000
found her guilty of both murders.
Prosecutors claimed that Cutro had Munchausen
syndrome by proxy, which is when people fake illnesses
or inflict injuries on children to gain attention. Cutro
had previously fabricated a story about an infant who
had died of SIDS. This gave credence to the theory,
although she was never officially diagnosed.
On the night of August 27, 2008, Crystal Walker left
her five-year-old daughter, Isabella, in the care of
her great-grandparents, Henry and Sharon Lascelle.
When they decided to go to bed, they left their
neighbor, 16-year-old John Freeman, in charge. That
night, he strangled Isabella to death after she said,
Its your turn to color. Apparently, he was upset
because he couldnt get her to sleep.
Freeman woke up his friend Tyler Best, and they
hid the body in a trash can. Best went to police the
following morning, saying he only helped move the
body because felt threatened by Freeman.
Freeman was given the maximum sentence of
22 years to life. During the sentencing, he quietly
mumbled a paltry apology. Im so sorry for all the
family, he said. Im just sorry. I cant say anything
else.
Isabellas father, Michael, could not bring himself to
appear in court for the sentencing and is now suing
the great-grandparents for negligence.
In December 1962,

Smithey responded
to a newspaper ad
for a live-in babysitter
in Phoenix. She was
promptly hired to look
after a family of four
children. On New
Years Day 1963,
15-month-old Sandy
Gerberick was found dead.
Smithey fled and was hitchhiking when she was
apprehended by police the next day. She gave conflicting
versions of events. First, she said that she might have
strangled the baby with a pair of stockings. Then she claimed
that she had awakened to find the child unresponsive and
that she didnt recall killing her but assumed she did.
The trial revealed that Smithey had quite a tumultuous
upbringing. She and her six sisters were taken from their
mother and separated after the death of their father when
Smithey was just four years old. She spent the next few
years going from home to home. She was repeatedly abused
and even spent four years in juvenile prison for attempting to
kidnap an 18-month-old baby.
Smithey managed to escape prison four times. Then one
day in 1983, everything changed for her. Erma Simmons,
the mother of the murdered child, wrote to Smithey to let her
know that she had been forgiven long ago after Simmons
found God. Smithey began to reflect on her life and became
a more well-behaved prisoner. In August 2012, she was
released after spending 49 years behind bars, making her
the longest-serving female inmate in US history.

Fortunately, the employee caught the hit and run lights
on camera. Meanwhile, authorities with the Aiken
County Sheriffs Office reported that the truck was
stolen, and the owner believed Martin was probably
driving it. Martin returned the truck several hours
later, according to reports, and the owner refused to

When officers met with Martin on Wrights Mill
Road, where he had supposedly taken the truck
without permission, he admitted to going to Apple-

Prisoner Escapes from Patrol Car in Aiken

Duane Grice is the Aiken County
suspect who escaped from the S.C.
Highway Patrol on Monday afternoon.
At presstime Tuesday afternoon, he
remained on the loose.
A search with bloodhounds for
44-year-old Duane Russell Grice
was called off around 8 p.m. Monday,
authorities said.
Authorities say Grice was being
taken to jail for outstanding warrants
when he fled a troopers vehicle while
it was near the detention center.

 Texas Man Insults Police in Mugshot
A Texas man who was arrested for evading
arrest last week made his feelings known in his
mugshot.
Dustin Bratton, 30, of Splendora, was
charged last Monday after he and another man
fled Montgomery County officers during a traffic
stop. The pair were driving when a deputy
attempted a traffic stop, but Bratton fled.
The dumb crook got caught when he drove
into a fence at a nearby house. He and his
passenger ran on foot, but were quickly
captured.
Both men were charged with felony evading
arrest with a vehicle. When jailers took his mugshot, he slipped up his
middle finger on the board he was holding, and he left it there for the
booking photo.
Joker Look-Alike Busted for Pointing Gun at Cars
A Miami man who resembles the Joker made national
headlines last week after his arrest for aiming a loaded
gun at drivers.
Lawrence Sullivan, 29, was identified as the suspect
after witnesses accurately described a man with green
hair and face tattoos resembling the Batman villain.
Miami police were dispatched to an apartment complex
after he was seen pointing the weapon at passing
vehicles. A police sergeant asked him to place his hands
on the patrol car and then patted him down.

The officer found a semi-automatic pistol and six rounds loaded in the
weapon.
I dont have a permit because its too expensive, the suspect reportedly
said.
Sullivan faces a charge of carrying a concealed firearm without a permit. He
was detained in the jails psychiatric unit prior to his release.

Woman Hits Ex-Boyfriend with Pork Fried Rice

Florida authorities arrested a woman last
week for hitting her ex-boyfriend with a pork
fried rice and hot sauce.
When police responded to the restaurant in
Vero Beach, they found the victim covered in
Chinese food. Samantha Wilson was quickly
arrested for domestic battery.
The bizarre case at the China No. 1
restaurant began as the victim waited for
Wilson to drop off the couples 8-year-old son
for a custodial visit. Once she arrived, they
began arguing about their childs excessive
absences from school, police said.
Instead of cracking open a fortune cookie,
the couple launched into a loud argument.
Thats about the time Wilson turned her ex
into a human wok and tossed his lunch on
him, according to media reports.
The victim complained that the sauce
burned a little, but he declined medical

Sheriffs Office Arrests 6 for Drug Violation/Possession

EDGEFIELD The Edgefield County Sheriffs Office
made at least 6 arrests recently for drug violation and
possession.
The first arrest was made on May 14.
According to a report from the Sheriffs Office, an em-
ployee with Billys Superstore called law enforcement
after a man had been sitting in his car, in the parking
lot, for over an hour with his turn signal on.
When officers arrived, they found, 38 year old Bruce
Brown asleep in his car. The officers woke him up, and
asked Mr. Brown what was going on, to which he told
them he had been going through some things, and was
driving around praying, and speaking with his mother
on the phone. When Mr. Brown hung up with his
mother, he decided to take a nap.
The police noticed Mr. Brown to be having trouble
staying still. Officers asked Mr. Brown if he had any
illegal drugs on him or in the car. He said no. Officers
then asked to search his car, and he stated they could.
While searching the car, police found a contact case
holding a white rock type substance. Police informed
Mr. Brown he was being placed under arrest for
possession of crack cocaine. They then asked if he
had anything on him, and Mr. Brown reached into his
pocket and pulled out a small glass tube, saying I lied,
I have a drug problem.
Another small glass tube was found inside the cup
holder, with off white residue found on it.
Pictures were taken, and all evidence was placed into
bags and sent to the narcotics investigator. Mr. Brown
is being charged with possession of crack cocaine.
The next arrest was made May 17
A report states, an officer was traveling down Ruby
Road, when he conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle
near Sweetwater Church of God. After receiving identi-
fication from the man, 51 year old Christopher Cul-
lipher, it was discovered his license was suspended.
Officers asked the man if anything illegal was inside
the car, to which he replied no.
Cullipher was then detained due to having a sus-
pended license. Officers then called for the canine dog
to conduct a search of the car, and the dog gave a
positive indication for narcotics in the car.
Inside the vehicle, an electronic smoking device was
found with green leafy substance, a pill bottle pre-
scribed to someone else was found with pills still inside
of the container, a broken glass pipe, a box with green
leafy plant substance, another smoking pipe, a clear
plastic bag with green leafy substance, a black digital
scale, a keyholder with a clear crystal like substance, a
small black straw, two glass smoking pipes with white
residue, and other various narcotic items were found
inside the vehicle.
Cullipher was then taken to the detention center
where he was cited for operating uninsured vehicle,
failure to register vehicle, use of tag registered to other
vehicle, driving under suspension, and simple posses-
sion of marijuana.
Officers are seeking warrants for possession of less
than 1 gram of methamphetamine, and possession of
prescription drugs without prescription.
The next four arrests happened on May 18 and May
19.
Justin Land, and Richard Keyser were arrested on
May 18 after an officer pulled their vehicle over for hav-
ing a tag registered to a different vehicle on their car.
Officers asked the men for permission to search the
vehicle and they stated yes.
Upon searching the car, officers located a clear piece
of plastic containing a quantity of off white rock, and
a clear glass tube containing an off white residue was
also located.
It was unclear who the drugs belonged to, and both
men were sent to the Edgefield Detention Center
where Mr. Land was placed on custody hold for pos-
session of crack cocaine. Mr. Keyser was also placed
on custody hold for possession of crack cocaine, and
driving under suspension.
On the 19th, Officers pulled over 43 year old Beverly
Williams, and 45 year old Anthony Young for no tag
lights on their vehicle.
Officers asked the pair if they had anything unlaw-
ful in the car and they both stated no. The pair then
stepped out of the truck, so the canine could conduct a
search of the vehicle.
Inside the vehicle, officers located a small pocket
book that Mrs. Williams stated was hers, the purse
contained a green leafy substance, believed to be
marijuana. A pill bottle with green leafy substance was
also found, along with pink colored pills, white pills,
three small black rock type substance, yellow round
pills, and a brown pill bottle prescribed to someone
else, with yellow round pills inside. All evidence was
located inside the pocketbook.
All evidence was collected and sent to narcotics divi-
sion for testing.
Mrs. Williams was cited for no tag lights, no SC driv-
ers license, and simple possession of marijuana.
Mr. Young was cited for simple possession of mari-
juana.

An Augusta mother has been
charged with breaking into a
home and bringing along her two
young daughters to teach them
how, according to authorities.
Tina Louise Wilson, 32, of Au-
gusta, was charged with burglary
and two counts of contributing to
the delinquency of a minor.
Wilson broke into a home on
Rhonda Drive through a back
door on May 25 and took an
XBox 360, four bookbags, a
watch, 18 bracelets, a hair dryer,
purses, shoes, body spray and
more, according to arrest war-
rants.
The womans 11-year-old
daughter and 10-year-old daugh-
ter were along for the ride, au-
thorities said.

Mom Arrested After 4 Year Old is

Found Wandering in Augusta Street
A 4-year-old Augusta boy was
found wandering on Watkins Street
at 7 in the morning, leading to the
arrest of his mother.
Ciara Garrett, 33, wasnt even at
home when her son was found. She
was working at Kelloggs Snacks,
according to a sheriffs report.
Authorities say a witness found
the boy in the middle of the street
last Wednesday morning, and the
child pointed to his home. But no
one answered the door of that
home, so the boy was taken nearby
to Sprouting Knowledge Develop-
ment School until authorities could
figure out what to do.
When deputies tried the boys
home again, they found the moth-
ers boyfriend, who had just re-
turned after taking the childs moth-
er to work. He said he thought the
childs great aunt was supposed to
take the boy to school. But the great
aunt told authorities she thought the
boys mother and boyfriend would
have taken him when they left.
None of the adults that live at
this residence had accounted for
the child and none of them made
sure he was being supervised by an
adult, a sheriffs report says. The
child was not injured in this incident
but if it wasnt for the investigating
officer making contact with an adult
it is unknown how long the child

Man Tries to Steal Firetruck &

Then Poses as a Policeman
Authorities arrested a man Saturday
night after he tried to steal a firetruck at
the Columbia County Fire & Rescue in
Martinez.
Suspect Kurt Kulling failed in his
attempt and later tried to seize a
residents vehicle by saying he was
on police business and needed the
victims van, authorities said.
The bizarre events ended when
Kulling dropped his ID and then hid in
the bushes two houses down. Thats
where deputies found him, according to
a sheriffs report.
Kulling, 29, of Augusta, was charged
with robbery, burglary, interference with
government property and obstruction of
an officer.
Firefighters said Kulling snuck into
their station around 9:50 p.m. Satur-
day and tried to start a firetruck but
couldnt. One of the firefighters heard
an air compressor going off in the bay
and found the suspect sitting in the fire-
truck. The suspect fled the bay area.
About 40 minutes later, Kulling was
walking a mile away and approached
a Martinez man on Tallman Drive,
demanding the keys to the victims
minivan. The victim said he didnt have
them and he went inside a home to call
the sheriffs office. The victim came
back outside with two friends and they
confronted Kulling as the suspect was
looking around the van.

him.

badge. When Kulling pulled out his
