Local Conservative MP Martin Shields

farmers across Canada
Shields introduced Motion M-108 on
May 29 in the House of Commons.
For them to be recognized as conser-
vation and stewards I think it goes a long
way to recognizing what farmers and
ranchers do, said Shields. They dont
wake up in the morning thinking about
screwing up their land.
Shields is the sole author of Motion
Tough tourney M-108; he had it vetted by the Conserv-
ative Party before submitting it to the
house. Motion M-108 not only calls upon
farmers and ranchers to be recognized as
stewards of the land but to encourage the
government to support conservation ef-
forts by the farming community.
Shields said this is a new idea that
hasnt been done before. Shields pointed
to no-till practices as a way farmers have

County can now issue

fireworks permits
ADELLE ELLIS
Times Reporter

An amended bylaw now allows Wheat-
land County to issue fireworks permits.
Wheatland County council voted in ap-
proval of amending bylaw 2017-44, the
Fire Services Bylaw, during the June 6
regular council meeting.
The amended bylaw now allows the
opportunity for the county to issue per-

Previous to the change in the Alberta
Fire Code and the Wheatland County by-
law, the county and its residents were

set off fireworks in the municipality. In-
stead, the province was responsible for
issuing these types of permits.

OFF!
Ironically, there is a fireworks factory
in Wheatland County, but they are feder-
ally regulated and are only authorized to
create, store, ship and set off fireworks
through federal regulations.
Permits can be filled out online or at
the County office. There is no charge
for a fireworks permit and applications
should, based on staff availability and
approved conditions, be accepted and
processed within 24 hours.
Permit holders must include their dis-
trict or regional fire chief in their plans
and must notify them of their intent to
use fireworks before the permits can be
processed by the county office.

After losing in the semifinals five of the past six

The Rage shouldnt feel too bad about their per-
