1. what is the gateway application in ug?

Gateway allows you to open existing part files, create new part files, save part files, plot drawings
and screen layouts, import and export various types of files, and other general functions. It also
provides consolidated view display operations, screen layout and layer functions, WCS
manipulation, object information and analysis, and access to online help.

2. what is dxf,iges,cgm,step,x-t, xpk and vrml?

Dxf- Drawing Exchange Format, IGES- Initial Graphics Exchange Specification.
CGM (Computer Graphic Metafile), x-t – parasolid text files. xpk - exchange package
file(This file will contain the geometry and tracking information for a single I-DEAS
part or an assembly with all of its component subassemblies and parts), VRML
(Virtual Reality Modeling Language).

3. is it possible to create solid from a line/arc? Yes

4. what is the function of grouping?

Identify individual objects as a group, and handle them as a single unit. Objects can
be removed from a group and restored to their individual status.

5. what is cliff edge function in ug?

The Cliff Edge Blend Type option lets you apply a constant radius blend starting at the cliff
edge, through a blend edge and tangent to the face opposite the cliff edge.

6. how can you duplicate a body and maintain its parameters?

By cloning option.

7. what is extract body and time stamp?

extract body:
This option creates an associative copy of an entire body. Features can then be
added to the Extract Body feature without appearing on the original body. You can
also decide whether you want the Extract Body feature to update when the original
body is changed.
time stamp
If you select the tool body of a boolean feature for extraction or linking when At
Timestamp is toggled OFF, the linked body will not reflect any features that are
added to the body resulting from the boolean. However, if you extract or link the
target body (instead of the tool body), the features resulting from the boolean are
reflected.
8. is it possible to give variable taper if yes how?
Yes. You can use the From Edges taper type to create a variable angle taper face
whose angle changes along the selected edges. You do this by using the Variable
Angle Point option to select reference points from the graphics window (If the taper
Type is anything other than From Edges, the Variable Angle Point icon is named.
9. how many types of assemblies can we create?
2 types: 1.Top down 2. Bottom up.
10. what is patch body?
This option lets you use a sheet body to replace some of the faces of a solid body.
You can also patch a sheet to another sheet.
Patch is useful when:
• Small gaps or small mismatches in surface normals between tool and target bodies might
cause other operations, such as Trim Body or Split Body, to fail.
You want to apply a handshaped blend.
You want to create a hole patch that has a more complex shape than those provided by
the Hole options.

11. what is reference set ,how many reference sets are possible in ug?
• Filter out unwanted objects from a component. For example, you can exclude sketch
lines and datum planes from your drawing.
• Simplify the graphic display of the component part in higher level assemblies.
• Conserve memory and increase performance by reducing the amount of data that needs
to be loaded into a Unigraphics NX session.
• Convert an existing part into a Master Model.
12. what is replace and delete in join/offset command?
Replace - Replaces the first input curve with the output joined curve and deletes all other
input curves. You cannot replace the input curves if the output spline is associative.
Delete - Deletes the original curves. (You can use Undo to recover them, but the new
spline is thrown away.) You cannot delete the input curves if the output spline is
associative.

13. how to redefine a hinge line?

This option allows you to edit a section view's hinge line. If geometry that defines the hinge
line was suppressed or deleted the hinge line displays as retained. After you redefine the
hinge line and update the view, the section view reorients itself to the hinge line if
necessary.

14. what is single segment in cable?

A Single Segment tube has only one or two lateral faces, which are B-surfaces. (The tube
has one lateral face if the inner diameter is zero.)

15. what is difference between align and mate function?

Mate Positions two objects of the same type so that they are coincident. For planar
objects, their normals will point in opposite directions.
Align For planar objects, it positions the two objects so that they are coplanar and
adjacent. For axisymmetric objects, it aligns the axes.
16. what is law curve?
The Law Curve option lets you create a spline using the Law Subfunction. A law
spline is defined by a set of X, Y, and Z components. You must specify a law for
each of these three components.

17. is it possible to sew solids,if yes How?

The Sew function lets you join together two or more sheet bodies to create a single sheet. If the
collection of sheets to be sewn encloses a volume, a solid body is created.
This function also lets you sew two solid bodies together if they share one or more common
(coincident) faces.

18. what is move recorder function in ug?

19. what is the difference between polynomial spline and general spline?

20. what is iso_parameters?

if you want to create an isoparametric curve that runs along the parameter of
revolution of a revolved body, the resulting curve is an arc. For complex faces, the
resulting curve is a spline. The modeling tolerance value is used to calculate
isoparametric curves on foreign faces and on offsets obtained from nonanalytic
faces.

21. what is the default tolerance for angle, intersect dist, model and curve?
0.025mm
22. what is the difference between through curve and through curve mesh?
Through curve: min 2section up to 150 sections can be used to create feature.
Through curve mesh: min 2 sec up to 150 sections and min 2 guide up to 150 guide
curves can be used for creating feature.

23. what is the difference between product drawing and production drawing?
Product drawing: Rough drawing (check drawing)
Production drawing: The complete drawing which is used for manufacturing
purpose.

24. what is first offset and second offset in extrude function?

Offset 2, causing an offset to be created outside the profile.

25. it is possible to create solid with curve mesh?

Yes.

26. what is spike and tiny elements in UG. when they apply?
It is found in the Examine Geometry.
Tiny: Searches for all tiny bodies, faces, edges, or curves in the selected bodies or
geometry.
Spike: It is found in the sheet bodies after it is trim from the tool body.

TGT - Tag of the object - sketch curves, edge, datum plane, datum axis, ug curves

CRVT -

The essence of WAVE is the ability to relate geometry between parts by creating
associative inter part copies of geometry.

30. it is possible to mirror a part in assembly?

Yes

31. what is the difference between edit curve and edit curve parameter?
Edit curve: We can trim, divide and change the parameter of the curve

35. while using array mating, how should be the phase(face)normal of the two parts?
MATE

36. difference between top-Down and bottom up assembly?

Top-down modeling lets you copy and move geometry between parts, while maintaining
the necessary associative links to keep the design of the part intact.
The Assemblies-> Components->Add Existing option lets you create an assembly using a
bottom-up design method, by adding a part to the work part as a component. This part can
be an existing part, or you can create a part family member on the fly.
37. it is possible to create a drafting item only?
NO

38. how do you delete single drawing sheet?

Right click in the sheet in the model tree  delete, insert  sheet  delete

39. what are the primitives?

Primitive features are basic analytic shapes - Blocks, Cylinders, Cones and Spheres.
Primitives are nonassociative, meaning they are not associated to geometry used to create
them. However, you can edit certain parameters.

40. how many primitives are allowed on a model?

41. how do know what models are loaded?
