II. Rationale

Since Education is the foundation of society and a prerequisite for social progress, it is a must to
educate with at least the basic skills known as the 3Rs ( i.e, reading, writing and arithmetic); the
teaching of the macro skills is as important as the mentioned above.

One of the most essential skills that a child must acquire refers to his ability to recognize,
comprehend and decode symbols. However, the use of this skill in learning our second language which is
English among children aging 8-10 is quite a challenge and a struggle. Though they already enrolled
themselves in school which improved and enhanced their skill, they still need assistance on which 4th
year English Majors of VSU-VILLABA is capable of.

The VSU-VILLABAs fourth year English major students can willingly extend help upon improving
the reading skill of the said participants through engaging them in a non-formal education.

So near my room
Upon the tree
A pollened bee
Two singing birds
So loud with words
And dragonflies
With beryl eyes
I leave my book
Ill look and look!
Star light, Star bright
First star I see tonight
I wish I may, I wish I might
Have the wish I wish tonight!

All Things Bright and Beautiful!

(an excerpt)
All things bright and beautiful
All creatures big and small
All things bright and wonderful
The Lord God made them all!

Each little flower that opens

Each little bird that sings
He made them glowing colors
He made their tiny wings!

The purple headed mountains

The rivers running by
The sun sets in the morning
That brightens up the sky!
