We are Better Together

Anna Quindlen, a columnist and author, once stated, And there is a grudging fairness

among the citizen of the United states that eventually leads most to admit that, no matter what

english only advocates try to suggest, the new immigrants are not so different(Quindlen 4).

This explains that it doesnt matter who the person is, everyone is alike and by being alike it

shows that people have common ground. Some people think that 9/11 separated the country, but

it actually brought people together for a tragedy. Another example of common ground is when

people graffiti and that can bring people of different race and religions together for something

they like. Individuals can find common ground due to unity after tragedy, embracing diversity,

and compromise.

People can find common ground due to unity after tragedy, and embracing diversity. In

the article, Oklahoma Bombing Memorial Address, by Bill Clinton, The text allows readers to

understand, Today our nation joins with you in grief. We mourn with you. We share your hope

that some may still survive,(Clinton 19). In this example, the reader learns that the people who

lost someone are not alone. This demonstrates inoty after tragedy because after the accident

people came together. Furthermore, in the article, Making the Future Better, Together, by

Eboo Patel, the author states, Washington wanted America to stand for something different: not

the old idea that we are better apart, but the high hopes that people from all corners of the earth
could do remarkable things together (Patel 5). By looking at the quote, readers can assume

that people can do great things together. The evidence suggests that with all of the different

people that come together, it shows them embracing diversity. As a result, there two articles

show 2 different types of people finding common ground.

People can find common ground due to forgiveness. In the play, A Raisin in the Sun,

by Lorraine Hansberry, the text explains, Ruth: We went to the movies We went-and we held

hands when we come out of the show it was late and dark and all the stores and things was

closed up and we was still holding hands, me and Walter. (Hansberry 72). This shows the

reader that she had a great time and now she forgave him because before this they fought all the

time. A conclusion that can be drawn is that they are living in peace and not fighting, that shows

they found common ground with each other. Additionally, in the play, A Raisin in the Sun,

another piece of text states, Mama: that leaves sixty- five hundred dollars.. Im potting it in your

hands. Walter: you trust me like that, Mama? Mama: I aint never stop trusting you. Like I aint

never stop loving you Walter: ( His face lit, he slips down on his knees beside her, his arms

still about her), (Hansberry 80). IN this example, the reader learns walter is happy when mama

gave him the rest of the money. This demonstrates forgiveness because before mama gave walter

the money, mama bought a house with it and that made walter angry with her, nut now they have

found peace between them. As a result, the play shows they have found common ground.

One should acknowledge that it can be difficult to find common ground, but it is possible.

It it clear that from the two articles and the play, it shows common ground by unify after tragedy,

embracing diversity, and when forgiveness happens. It is extremely important for people to find

common ground, so they can live in peace and not be separated.
