The Verb J

The verb j implies to be. It is frequently used with professions.

For example:

Ladi j dkt. Ladi is a doctor.


Fadrera j agbjr. Fadrera is an attorney/a lawyer.

The verb j can be used to link phrases.

For example:

In Yorb, ni is another form of the verb to be as used in the sentences below:

However, one cannot say:

When ni is negated, it becomes k ni, as found in the examples below:

Regular pronouns cannot be used with ni as in the following examples:

Some examples of adjectival verbs include ga (tall), sanra (fat) and tbi (big).

Gerunds can be used to describe people. They follow their nouns.
