Lesson Title: People and Jobs in the Community Lesson Length: 45 min.
Rationale for Instruction At the end of the lesson, first graders will be able to learn peoples
job in the community. They will also learn why these people are
essential in the community to help keep everyone safe. This is
important because they will know who they can reach out when
they need help.

and enforce rules and laws in the school and community.

Use simple acting techniques to portray a person, place, action, or
thing.

Learning Objectives 1. Given a role play scenario, first graders will demonstrate their
knowledge of the role of a person in the community, and will show
so within 5 minutes.

2. First graders will analyze their performance, so when given a


self-assessment, they will answer promptly.

3. First graders will demonstrate mastering of information, so that


when given the unit assessment , they will do it with no less than
80% accuracy.
Student Activities & I do
Procedures The teacher will start the lesson by explaining students that there
are many people within the community that help keep people
following the rules, and help when accidents happen because rules
were broken.
During this week we have learned that rules are what is
expected for every person to do in certain circumstances,
and that its purpose is to help keep everyone safe. Today we
are going to learn about those who help reinforce these
rules, and how they help in doing so.

We do
The class will be separated into three groups. Each group will learn
more about a specific person who has made an impact in the
community with enforcing rules. They will be given 10 minutes to
identify who the person is, what they do, and how they helped in
the community. Then, they will present their findings to the whole
class.

You do
Students will present to the whole class the person they would like
to be when they are older and how they help in the community.

Assessment Daily Lesson Plan Assessment:


After the presentation, the students will then self evaluate on how
they did and how their role plays a part in the community.

Resources/Materials Three bottle persons we each did. (Martin Luther King Jr, Sandra
Day OConnor, Sonia Sotomayor)
Exceptionalities ESOL: If they are not able to communicate or understand some of
the vocabulary they are able to act it out to show that they
understood the material.
Students with Learning Differences: Same as ESOL
Gifted/Talented: The students will create a self bottle of how they
will see themselves when they get older and how they are helping
in the community.
