7.1 Rack Mounting

Adequate ventilation is obviously required for optimum performance. As a
result of this consideration, ensure that no other equipment is located
close to the Processing Module that might increase the Processing
Modules environmental temperature.

Warning
Remember that fans are used to air cool the equipment and
protect it from overheating.
Do not block fans intakes during operations.

Having regard to the weight of the processing module chassis, support

guides are required for this unit into the rack mount. The front ears of the
unit are not designed to support its full weight. Applying full weight on
these might result in bending the metal plate.

Bridging Services at LAN 2

DYVI bridging at LAN 2 connector is designed for distributed DYVI
systems to reduce number of optical network links and to provide the
advantage of fast and reliable long distance DYVI Network to 3rd party
services. Bridging is a common IP technology implemented in DYVI which
has been tested initially- and is verified with various devices listed in the
table above.
Configuration:
Currently, bridging is restricted to LAN2 connector of the Processing
Module and to DYVI network topology configuration Direct-2-10G (see
Network Settings).

Processing Module Installation and Cabling 27

EVS Broadcast Equipment SA Issue 1.4.0 April 2016

All devices applying Processing Modules LAN2 bridging must be

configured as follows:
Network: 192.158.1.XXX
Network Mask: 255.255.255.0
IP address range: 192.158.1.11 ...
192.158.1.254
(all other IP addresses are reserved or are used DYVI internal)
Once the network is configured the dedicated bridging services should
work as expected respectively as designed by the Manufacturer.
Limitations could occur if the Quality of Service of the network does not fit
a certain devices requirement!
The LAN2 connector port can be extended in number by use of a 1GigE
switch.

Note
The Display Monitors connected to the DVI outputs have to
support progressive video standards (e.g. 1920x1080p) in
any case, even if the reference video standard is interlaced
(e.g 1920x1080i).
The Display Monitors have to be connected to the DVI
outputs and must be powered on before the DYVI
processing module is powered on. This is mandatory to
ensure the monitors are detected during power up and
resolution and Frame rates are managed properly.
To advantage the low system latency at DVI output, any field
interpolation mode on the multiviewer screens should be
disabled! On consumer TV-screens for example, the Gamer
Mode should be activated. For more details refers to your
displays reference manual.
For multiviewer configuration details please refer to the DYVI
Operation Manual.
The multiviewer signals are assigned to the two first DVI/DP
connectors if a monitor is connected at the booting. If a
monitor is added later, a reboot is necessary for the
connector become active.

Extend Multiviewer Monitors Cabling distance

Using DVI or HDMI cables at the Multiviewer interface limits the distance
to 10-15 meters depending on monitor- and cable type. Longer distances
of 100 150 meters can be reached using HDMI SDI HDMI converters
in between. For more details please contact your EVS Technical Support.

Network Cabling Examples

One Single Processing Module (Topology: none)

In this topology the 40GigE connectors are not used at all.

Two Processing Modules, stacked local (Topology: Direct-2)

In the topology Direct-2, two Processing Modules are connected with two
QSFP+ to QSFP+ cables.
There is one link between the two A ports and one link between the two B
ports.
Depending on the required cable length, it could be a Twinax passive
cable or a QSFP+ optical module solution.

Device-IDs, refer to section 9.2.3 page 50.

Using a Network Switch (Topology: Switch-10G-x4_1R)

For more flexible solutions, multiple Processing Modules can be
connected through a 10GigE network switch.
The Switch-10G-x4_1R topology allows to build a production with two
Processing Modules on the local site (the Main-Module and one Extension
Module) and one Processing Module (Extension Module) at the remote
site. The QSFP+ port A of each local Processing Module has to be
connected to 4x10GigE SFP+ ports of the network switch using a
converter cable. In case of a 40 GigE link is not available, a 10GigE line can be used.
in this case, port A has to be connected through a single 10GigE Wave
connection to the switch as well.

In a first step you have to choose the new version file that should be
installed. For the Processing Module the software application file name
has to match the scheme mainframe_<versionIdent>.tar.gz.
Use the Install Software control and agree to the subsequent dialog to
start the software installation process. If the installation process is
completed, the next Processing Module Reset swaps automatically to
the newly installed version.

Warning
Before swapping partition or installing new software ensure
the correct device you want to modify is labeled on the
headline of the menu. This has to be the device the network
browser is connected to.
Do not close the browser window while the software
installation process is in progress because this would
stop the software installation procedure and result in
an incomplete installation.

6. Validate your changes by clicking Next.

9.4.2 DYVI Cluster Settings

Beside the Hostname which has to be set in the Network Settings, only the
Device-ID is used in the GUI. The unique Device-ID is generated
automatically out of the last byte of the Devices IP address plus adding an
offset of 1000.
In the above example, the IP address low byte was 100, which results in a
Device-ID of 1100 (decimal).

12.1 DYVI Definitions

Production A production is a hierarchical set of Objects and Data that

completely describes a certain TV-Show. It contains all
kind of static and dynamic information of all DYVI devices
that are contributing to the TV show - at any time.

Scene, A scene is a dynamic subset of Objects and Parameters

Layer, like Layers, Layer Sources and Effects to create video
Effects compositions. Additionally dynamic behavior can be
added like Transition, Macros or Timelines. Scenes can
exist independent which makes them itself available to be
a bus source anywhere in the production architecture.
At minimum, a scene consist of a BGD layer with a PGM
and PST source bus. Choices of sources can be added to
that buses at any time.
Any number of Layers can be added to a scene. While the
BGD Layer is unique and always has a fixed relationship
of PGM and PST buses, Layer buses exist independent
and are stacked on top of the BGD Layer.
Up to this point, a scene is quite similar to a traditional
mixer M/E EMEM except that the number of object in a
scene in general is not fixed and not limited in number.
Effects can be added to any Layer. By default, every
Layer initially starts with a Full Size effect. This effect
enables the BGD layer to execute PGM/PST transitions or
to add/remove layers on top. The default effect can be
replaced and/or enhanced with further effects of nearly
any type and number.

Stage, A stage is a container of multiple scenes that provides a

Snapshot single scene output at a time as a video source. A stage
can be operationally compared to a traditional switcher
ME : providing an output to the PP(called Mainscene in
DYVI), having PGM and PVW monitors in the Multiviewer,
and being controlled by dedicated buttons in the panel,
Initially a scene remembers the changes (sources, effect
parameters). When a scene within is stored (button in
the Panel menu) this scene becomes a snapshot. Its
parameters are then frozen and any future change will be
forgotten if the snapshot is later recalled. .
