Forbidden Love

Thomas Paine once stated, The harder the conflict the more glorious the triumph. In the

play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, the author shows the reader how love can

affect a persons choices and love at first sight can make a person better or worse. This play tells the

story of how Romeo and Juliet fell in love at first sight and wanted to get married. They tried to get

married no matter what even if their family prevents it. The characters love was difficult because their

family are rivals and it restricts them from getting married. Love can always be found in Literature

when the main character finds someone that they care for.

In the Tragedy Of Romeo and Juliet, passion is an essential part for the play and it makes it

more interesting because it makes the story more suspenseful and it could affect the characters in a

good or bad way. The text states, If i profane with my unworthiest hand This holy shrine the gentle

fine this is(Shakespeare ACT 1.2.line 102-105). Romeo shows passion for Juliet when they meet

for the first time at the party. This is important because this emphasize that that both of them have

passion for each other and shows each other their love. In addition this shows that they love each other

even if their families are enemies. The text states,Shall I speak ill of him that is my husbandThat

villain cousin would of killed my husband..(Shakespeare ACT 2.2.line 106-111). This shows passion

because although she mourned her cousins death, she was also mourned the banishment of her

husband. This reveals that Juliet is deeply in love with Romeo no matter the situation. In conclusion

we can see passion between the two characters still love each other when there is conflict in their way.

Pain is an important facet in Romeo and Juliet because many stories need pain and conflict for

the characters to grow. This makes literature more interesting because pain can make the main

characters more mature and help them grow. The text states,This he, that villain Romeo.

(Shakespeare ACT 1.2.70). This example explains that Tybalt understands the pain of Romeo during

the party. This reveals that Tybalt thinks that Romeo is disrespecting the Capulets at the party. On a

similar not there is pain shown in the story when Juliet finds out that Romeo has been banished and

Tybalt has been slain. The text states,O break, my heart! Poor bankrout, break at once is Romeo

slaughtered and Tybalt dead.(Shakespeare ACT 3.2.70). To better understand this situation, readers

learn here that Juliet is conflicted and doesn't know who to mourn when Romeo is banished and Tybalt

dead. In the end we understand that the pain Juliet is going through is due to the misfortunate events

happening to her.

In the story, conflict is shown in the myth Pyramus and Thisbe when the wall blocks them

from talking to each other and the family won't let them marry. The conflict forces them to run away in

the middle of the night to meet each other. The text states,The wall their house shared had one thin

crack which formed when they were built and was left.(Ovid 2). This example explains that the crack

was the only way they could talk to each other. It is apparent that the family and the wall conflicts

them from seeing each other and their urge to marry. In addition, conflict affects their decisions and

the conflict will arise more depending on the characters actions. The author points outs, Dear boy,

you died by your own hand your love has killed you.(Ovid 5). This shows that conflict is caused by

their love for each other and their parents forbidding them from getting married. This shows that

conflict helps the story go on and the characters would change over the course of the story. In the end,

conflict enables them to grow and the downfall of the main characters.

Pain, Conflict and passion helps the characters develop and helps them understand their

actions. Passion and pain can make the characters think differently and their decisions can be affected

by it. Love at first sight could hurt them mentally and physically. In the text, The Tragedy Of Romeo

and Juliet, fell in love at first sight and it caused their downfall. Also in the myth,Pyramus and

Thisbe love caused them to kill each other due to misunderstanding. The facets that are shown in the

story make literature more appealing to the readers and the characters decisions are dependant on the

situation.
