About the Institute:
St. Francis Institute of Technology (SFIT)
was established in 1999 with a view to
create an Engineering Institute to fulfill
the long felt need for an Institute of
Excellence in Borivali. SFIT is Roman
Catholic Minority Educational Institute
affiliated to the University of Mumbai,
approved by AICTE and ISO 9001: 2008
certified. The total intake at present is 360

About the Department of Basic Science
and Humanities:
The main objective of Applied Science in
engineering study is to develop a strong
knowledge of basic principles of various
disciplines in the mind of learners, so that
they proceed with their further studies &
also keep up to date with the knowledge
of basic engineering skills. The Unique
strength of the department is its excellent
coordination in carrying out various
academic responsibilities. It caters to the
needs of the society and carves the
younger generation into better citizens
thus leading the budding engineers to the
path of success. The Department has
grown in strength over the years in terms
of infrastructure including laboratories
and faculty.
About the Course:
Engineering is the art of applying scientific
and mathematical principles, experiences,
judgments and logic to create or develop
new products that benefit people and
solve problems. Learning to think in
mathematical terms is an essential part of
becoming a liberally educated person.
Today mathematics as a mode of thought
and expression is more valuable than ever
before.
Thus in order to be a good engineer one
should be capable of handling
mathematical problems efficiently
Since applications of Mathematics in
engineering are so vast and varied, it is
not possible to summarize them. However
given its scope and importance we have
attempted to cover some important
aspects through topics like Vector and
Linear Algebra, Complex Analysis, Laplace
Transform, Group Theory, Probability,
LPP, Sci-Lab, Latex and R-Programming.
We also aim at providing hands on
experience in some of these topics.
In todays competitive times, our students
get exposure to every detail and are keen
to discuss possibilities of every concept
that is discussed with them. As a teacher,
it is vital that we keep enhancing our skills
and adding to our knowledge. One such
important aspect is that we know the
practical applications of the theory that
we present to them so as to make them
realize practical possibilities and guide
them in terms of further scope of research.
This workshop aims at bringing the
teachers together to fulfill this vital
purpose.
