Conditional Sentences

El uso del condicional significa que una accin depende de otra. Los
condicionales se utilizan para hablar sobre situaciones reales o irreales.
En general, las frases condicionales llevan la palabra if (si).

Ten en cuenta que no existe un tiempo verbal para el condicional en


ingls como existe en espaol. A la vez, se usa el verbo auxiliar would
para formar el condicional en ingls.

Hay cuatro tipos de frases condicionales y el uso de uno u otro refleja la


probabilidad de la accin.

Conditional Types (Tipos de los condicionales)

ZERO CONDITIONAL

Utilizamos el tipo cero en las oraciones condicionales para expresar


"verdades cientficas" principalmente. Por ejemplo:

If you heat the water, it boils


(Si calientas el agua, hierve)

If you heat the butter, it melts


(Si calientas la mantequilla, se derrite)

Como se puede observar en los ejemplos, la estructura de este tipo de


oracin sera la siguiente:

[If + presente simple]+[presente simple]

FIRST CONDITIONAL

El primer tipo nos indica que una situacin ocurrir con seguridad en el
futuro.

[if + presente simple] + [futuro simple (will)]


If he finishes his homework, hell go to the cinema.

SECOND CONDITIONAL

El Segundo tipo de condicional indica que una accin podra ocurrir.


Tiene un matiz de duda.

[if + pasado simple] + [condicional simple (would)] (Duda)

If I met Leonardo DiCaprio, Id ask him for his autograph.

THIRD CONDITIONAL

El tercer tipo de condicional indica la imposibilidad de que una accin


hubiese tenido lugar.

[if + pasado perfecto simple] + [condicional perfecto (would


have+participio)

If she had got up earlier, she wouldnt have missed the train.
