B.S. Community Nutrition Citizenship and Nation-Building

Philippines is home to approximately about 100 million people, with over 7000 tropical islands,
and is situated in the western Pacific Ocean. It is easy to love the Philippines as it is rich with
abundant natural resources and some of the worlds greatest biodiversity, It is known for a lot
of beaches and even if youve lived in the Philippines your whole life, one will never be able to
go to and experience every beaches in the Philippines.

This weeks NSTP focused on citizenship and nation-building. Its objective are for us to learn to
be more nationalistic and patriotic towards our country but most importantly to be proud to be
Filipinos. I think it is very important for us to be nationalistic and be proud to have been born
Filipinos because how else would we be able to serve the country well if we dont love our
country and countrymen.

One trait that is very commonly known around the world that Filipinos possess is hospitality.
Filipinos are known to be very hospitable towards other people even people with different
ethnicity. We are also known for our smiling faces, even in hardships, Filipinos tend to just smile
it out. I am very proud of that. Moreover, we are known for our karaoke. If I based it on
experience, Ive lived overseas, specifically Bahrain, and people there tend to think that all
Filipinos could sing. I can sing a bit and when people hear it, they always say why are all
Filipinos so good in singing? It is very generalized and stereotypical but at least its somewhat
positive and also sort of true. And the reason for that is I think, we get our musical ability from
our exposure to karaokes ever since we were little, our families tend to always have karaokes
during almost all events. and of course our love for singing.

When there are positive traits, there also negative traits. Filipinos are not only known for our
positive traits but also the negative. We are also seen in a negative light which is how the phrase
only in the Philippines came up. Although its sort of a propaganda and can also be used as
an advert for others to come and see things that are only in the Philippines its almost always
negative. For example, in public transports, how a jeepney that can comfortably fit 20 people,
in Philippines, they try to maximise the seating and seat about 24 people regardless if its
already full and people are squeezed in so much they cant move or even breathe properly.
There are a lot to say about Philippines that one might only see the country in a negative way
but Filipinos are kind, they are easy to love as much as the country its more fun in the
Philippines.

It takes one to love the countrymen first before you can love the country. If you dont love the
people in the country, it means you wont serve them. If you dont serve them, then youre not
helping the country in any way because the people in the country is what makes the country.
