Choice of vibration damper

If you are in doubt as to the most appropriate
damper, we will be pleased to offer you advice.
No task is too small or too big, and you are very
welcome to make use of our technical expertise
and know-how, even in the planning and design
phase.

Why use vibration dampers? To help you find the ideal damper, we need to know
Wherever there is machinery, there is also the following:
vibration. Vibration dampers are used to protect
machine type
people, machinery or buildings from unnecessary
and hazardous strain caused by vibration or its machine weight
associated shock and noise.
no. of mountings
People are not always aware of how irritating rotation speed/frequency
vibration really is, or of the injuries and damage

it can cause. Considerable financial and
environmental benefits can, however, often be
gained from damping vibration. Vibration dampers
extend the service life of machinery and equipment,
reduce the need for building maintenance and
improve the health and well-being of staff.

In most cases, investing in vibration dampers

is relatively inexpensive but the results are both
appreciable and effective.

Practical considerations
a - Variable speed machines
In practice, there may not be a single, well defined
value for , as machines may have a variable
speed (variable ).
In these cases, the vibration isolation should be
determined for the lowest speed.

b - Passing through resonance

All machines must start and stop.
Starting from rest to reach the speed (in the
vibration isolation region), it is necessary to pass
through the resonant region.
It is neccesary to ensure:
- that the passage through resonance is as quick
as possible;
- that the suspension is sufficiently well damped so
that the maximum force transmitted presents no
risk for the machine, the suspension or the seating.

c - Elastomeric suspensions
For the elastomers currently used in flexible
mounting systems, the intrinsic damping factor 0
lies between 0.02 and 0.1 (it can be as high as 0.2
with synthetics such as butyl rubber).
- In the vibration isolation region, the formula for
the transmission coefficient is simplified as, for
the values of 0 for natural rubber, the term 4 2 is
negligible by comparison with 1.

Cylindrical dampers

Applications
Cylindrical vibration dampers are universal vibration
isolators with a natural frequency of 15-20 Hz,
depending on load.
They are suitable for axial and radial loads.

Advantages
Low cost.
Wide variety of sizes.

Specifications
Standard materials are usually zinc-coated steel
and natural rubber (NR). Metal connectors and
elastomer parts can, however, be produced in
a wide variety of materials, depending on the
conditions of intended use.
If special conditions require it, we can, for
example, in cooperation with our suppliers,
produce metal parts in stainless steel and in AISI
304 or AISI 316 acid-resistant stainless steel.
Should the application make special
requirements on elastomer type, e.g. resistance
to ozone, UV radiation or chemicals, we can also
supply appropriate solutions.
As standard, the various sizes (hx) are
available with the following connector
combinations:
Type A: external/external thread
Type B: external/internal thread
Type C: internal/internal thread
Finally, we also offer impact buffers. These are
described at the end of this section.
