1 aspenONE Known Issues

License checkout fails while using a

standalone license file or commuted license
While using a standalone license file or commuted license, the license
checkout may fail and return an error code 26 time tamper error.
aspenONE V8.0 requires that all license keys be initialized before they are
used by an application. The aspenONE installation automatically does this
initialization by executing the command line utility SLMLicenseInit.exe from
the folder <Common Files>\AspenTech Shared\.
An issue was found with the V8.0 installed version of SLMLicenseInit.exe,
which could cause some of the keys to not get initialized under certain
situations, and eventually make the license checkout fail.
To address this issue, an updated version of this utility has been made
available in the Tools folder of DVD1 and DVD2. You should replace the
installed file on the machine with the one from the Tools folder. Both 32-bit
and 64-bit versions of this file are available, and you need to use the
appropriate one to update your computer. Always use the 32-bit file on 32-bit
computers. On 64-bit computers, use the 32-bit file to replace the file under
<Program Files (x86)>\Common Files\AspenTech Shared\ and the 64-bit file
to replace the one under <Program Files>\Common Files\AspenTech Shared\.
Once the file is replaced, please launch SLM Configuration Wizard from Start
Menu | Programs | AspenTech | Common Utilities, and run through the
configuration until done.
If you are creating a silent deployment of the software, refer to the document
Unattended Install Help available from the aspenONE Installer or to the
aspenONE Deployment Guide for further instructions.
Please contact AspenTech Customer Support if the issue persists.

Using Install button to Upgrade products
will cause upgrade to fail
If you are upgrading Aspen applications to V8.0, you should click Upgrade or
repair existing products on the opening dialog of the aspenONE Installer. If
you select Install aspenONE products, the installation could fail, and some
of the products would not be upgraded. Install aspenONE products should
be clicked only after upgrading the existing products to V8.0.

To find out which version of AspenTech software is

installed on the computer:
You can launch the aspenONE Uninstaller from the Start menu by clicking
Uninstall AspenTech Software from <Start Menu> | Programs |
AspenTech.

aspenONE V8.0 only supports SLM Server

8.4
Before installing V8.0, you must upgrade your SLM server to 8.4. The SLM
Server 8.4 will work with earlier versions of SLM client. In general, the SLM
Server version needs to be equal or higher than the SLM Client version.

5 Click OK.
6 If you are prompted to restart your computer, restart it and then re-open
the help file. The bulleted list displays correctly.

Installing SQL Server 2005/2008 on

Localized XP SP3
If you have not installed a SQL engine, the AspenTech installer will attempt to
install SQL Express 2005 SP3 or higher for any AspenTech product that
requires SQL. In doing so, you may see the issue as described below.
Symptom
When you install an English version of SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2008
on a localized version of Windows XP with Service Pack 3 which is not an
English version, you will get following error message:
The Windows Installer service cannot update the system file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msxml6r.dll because the file is protected by
Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this
program to work correctly.
After you click OK or the corresponding button, the setup resumes and the
setup will succeed.
An example screen that appears when installing on Chinese Windows is shown
below:

4 aspenONE V8.0 Known Issues

Cause
In Windows XP SP3 MSXML files were added to Windows File Protection. SQL
setup tries to install smxml6r.dll with the same version as found for the
English language.
Resolution
There is no Hotfix at this time. When the error occurs, click OK or the
corresponding button to continue.

aspenONE V8.0 Known Issues 5

Cumulative update rollup for VBA
If you install an AspenTech product that installs Microsoft Visual Basic for
Applications (VBA) on a computer that has an earlier version of VBA, you may
experience one of the following problems:
When you try to run a macro, you may receive an error message similar
to the following:
Object library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could
not be found or Compile Error in Hidden Module: <module name>.
When this problem occurs, the macro does not run.
When you try to add one of the updated controls to an Office Visual Basic
for Applications form, you may receive an error message similar to the
following:
Element not found.
When this problem occurs, the control is not added to the form.
To resolve the problem, delete cached versions of the control type libraries.
To do this, search the hard disk for ".exd" and then delete all occurrences.
The .exd files are re-created automatically by using the new controls the next
time that you use VBA. When searching for the .exd files, ensure that the
Search hidden files and folders option is checked in the More Advanced
Options of Windows Explorer.
