 Minutes for Membership Meeting for May 2017
The May meeting was held at Garfield Park in Davenport and involved our members in
our bi-annual picnic and awards ceremony, as well as the awarding of the chapter
scholarships to deserving young people. The chapter provided brats and hot dogs as well as
water and soft drinks to those who attended the meeting. The cooking was handled by John
Lavelle and Rolf Shave. Larry Witt presented $500 scholarships to three graduating high
school seniors, Lauren ONeil, Austin ONeil, and Carter Rands. All three of these young
people are grandchildren of chapter members. Chapter awards were presented to the
following members for their efforts in helping to serve veterans throughout the years, the
2017 Presidents Award was presented to Harold Hansen. The Associate of the Year was
presented to Alicia Owens. Ernest Ledjte was presented with the VSO of the Year Award.
Harold Sonny Kempf received the Honor Guard of the Year Award. Denny Quell was the
recipient of the New Member Award. Edwin Hildebrand received the Community Service
Award. Special Recognition Award had two recipients this year, Darrell Thode and Jim
Daxon. Lyle Peterson was the Member of the Year for Chapter 776.
The new officers and Board of Directors were sworn in by Past President Ron Sebastian,
they included Ed Gaudet as President, Bruce Cheek as Vice-President, Treasurer Harold
Hansen, Secretary John Lavelle. The new Board of Directors were Sonny Kempf, David
Woods, Bill Matthews, Steve Star, and Larry Witt. Minutes submitted by John P. Lavelle,
