Introduction

Every school has its own story to tell. The context in which teaching and learning takes place influences the processes and procedures by
which the school makes decisions around curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The context also impacts the way a school stays faithful
to its vision. Many factors contribute to the overall narrative such as an identification of stakeholders, a description of stakeholder
engagement, the trends and issues affecting the school, and the kinds of programs and services that a school implements to support student
learning.

The purpose of the Executive Summary (ES) is to provide a school with an opportunity to describe in narrative form the strengths and
challenges it encounters. By doing so, the public and members of the school community will have a more complete picture of how the school
perceives itself and the process of self-reflection for continuous improvement. This summary is structured for the school to reflect on how it
provides teaching and learning on a day to day basis.

Description of the School

Describe the school's size, community/communities, location, and changes it has experienced in the last three years. Include
demographic information about the students, staff, and community at large. What unique features and challenges are associated
with the community/communities the school serves?

The Collaborative College for Technology and Leadership (CCTL) is one of two early-college high schools in Iredell County. We are a public
high school of the Iredell-Statesville Schools district and we admit students from Iredell-Statesville Schools and from Mooresville Graded
Schools. We are a school of choice and an application school. We admit 54 students each year into our school and our freshmen class. We
typically have four times as many applicants as we have seats available due to the physical constraints of our classroom sizes. Our high
school classrooms are located within two buildings on the Statesville campus of Mitchell Community College at 500 W. Broad St., Statesville,
NC 28677.

Within our early college, our students are working toward their high school diploma and a two-year Associate degree. Students may
complete their high school diploma and Associate degree within 4, 4.5, or 5 years. The only cost to families is their annual laptop usage fee
of $50 which is the same as the traditional high schools in our school district. In addition to our district organization, we fall under the
auspices of the NC New Schools organization. As such, we are charged with recruiting and selecting 80% of our students who fall into one
of three categories: 1) first generation college, 2) at-risk, 3) under-represented at universities.

Our typical enrollment within the school is approximately 220 students among our 9th-13th grades. Our students are 69% Caucasian, 52%
Female, and approximately 35% Free/Reduced lunch. Our staff includes 8 teachers, 3 instructional assistants, 1 shared teacher, 1
community liaison/teacher position, 1 shared college liaison, 1 guidance counselor, 1 office manager, and 1 principal. Our staff is 88%
Caucasian.

Iredell County has a wide range of land-use and of affluence. Our county is approximately 40 miles long (north to south) with the northern
end being mostly rural and farm land while the southern end is more densely populated and affluent. We have students at CCTL from each
middle school from across the county and from local charter plus private schools.

During the past 3 years, our school has seen an increase in the number of applicants and a slight decrease in our % of Caucasian students.
We have been a 1:1 laptop school for six years whereas the district has been 1:1 for two years. Challenges for our school include progress
monitoring within college courses, textbook and access-code costs within college courses, and keeping students engaged during their 13th
grade.

Notable Achievements and Areas of Improvement

Describe the school's notable achievements and areas of improvement in the last three years. Additionally, describe areas for
improvement that the school is striving to achieve in the next three years.

In the past three school years, we have many notable achievements. Our school earned two distinctions: "Apple Distinguished School" and
"NC New Schools School of Innovation and Excellence." The Apple distinction was earned by providing evidences our of: technology within
1) visionary leadership; 2) innovative learning and teaching; 3) ongoing professional learning; 4) compelling evidence of success; and 5)
flexible learning environment. The "Innovation and Excellence" distinction was earned by our high ratings on our Design Principles, our high
student growth, and our college readiness on the ACT.

We have improved in multiple areas in the last three years. We have decreased our % of students earning Fs and Ws in college classes
from 22% to 6%. We have decreased our % of students needing developmental courses in the college courses. For the first time, we
"exceeded growth" as a school on our accountability model and for the second time, we were labeled an "A" school. We are ranked the
highest performing school in Iredell-Statesville Schools based on our composite accountability score of a 95. Of our teachers, 100% are
highly qualified and 100% meet or exceed growth targets for students. We have improved our high school graduation rate to 100%, and we
met 100% of our AMOs. For the past three years, our rank among all of the NC high schools has improved to being within the top 6%, then
top 5% and now top 2%.

Some of our future areas of improvement include continuing to increase our differentiation and personalization in classrooms, improving ACT
subtest results, continuing to increase percent of students earning their Associate degree.

Additional Information

Provide any additional information you would like to share with the public and community that were not prompted in the previous
sections.

We are very proud of our student performance results, especially considering our performance in light of our target audience of first
generation college students, at-risk students, and under-represented populations in college/universities! Parents consistently rate us as an
"A" school! We love our school!
