Beowulf Outline

The Wrath of Grendel

Grendel, a powerful monster, lives in the darkness outside

Herot.

Grendel sneaks in and kills 30 men in the mead hall.

King Hrothgar mourned for 12 years.

The king and his advisors pray for help.

The Coming of Beowulf

Beowulf hears about Grendel and comes to the rescue.

The watchman asks Beowulf why he is here.

Beowulf explains he is here to help.

Beowulf goes to meet the King.

Beowulf talks about how great he is.

Beowulf will fight the monster with his bare hands.

 The Battle Between Beowulf and Grendel

Out of the marsh came Grendel

Grendel snapped the door open

Grendel saw all the soldiers and relished the fact that all the
soldiers were there.

Grendel ate a soldier.

Beowulf was watching and starts to fight Grendel

Grendel screams and wants to leave.

Beowulf snapped off Grendels arm

Grendel flees to the marshes to die

The monsters arm is hung in the hall

The Monsters Lair

We learn that Grendel has a mother

No one knows about his father

They live in a lake that burns at night

Beowulf is asked to kill Grendels mom and he will get gold.

 Battle with Grendels Mother

Beowulf says if he loses give his to his treasure to his family

and his sword to Unferth.

Beowulf meets the she-wolf

She carries him to her home underwater where no other

monster can go.

Beowulfs sword is useless against Grendels mom.

Grendels mom is winning the fight, tries to stab Beowulf, but

his armor and god protect him.

Beowulf gets the massive sword and cuts off moms head.

Cuts off Grendels head and brings it to the surface and to the
King.

The Last Battle

Beowulf and his fellow Geats return home and Beowulf

eventually becomes King. He rules for 50 years and then a
dragon becomes a menace in his kingdom. Beowulf must fight
the dragon.

Beowulf proclaims he has never known fear and will fight the
dragon.

Beowulf will use a sword and shield this time to fight without
shame.
Beowulf goes to the tower above the rocky cliffs and yells out a
battle cry.

The dragon is angry that men have come and breathes fire.

Beowulf shield starts to melt.

Beowulf realizes he is fighting with fate against him.

He strikes the dragon, but the sword breaks.

Beowulf knows he is going to die.

None of Beowulf soldiers except Wiglaf who reminds the Geats

that Beowulf had always protected them comes to Beowulfs
rescue.

Wiglaf and Beowulf kill the dragon, but Beowulf is mortally

wounded.

The Spoils

Wiglaf loads up on the dragons treasures and brings them to

Beowulf.

Wiglaf finds Beowulf dying.

Beowulf asks Wiglaf to keep all his treasure and build Beowulf
a tower high on the waters edge to remember him.

Wiglaf becomes king.

The Farewell

The tower is built and all of Beowulfs treasures are sealed in it.

The soldiers mourn Beowulf and tell stories of his greatness.
