Objective
Learning Assessment Throughout the course the teacher will make informal observations of the

each trimester the teacher will conduct a formal, face-to-face, verbal
assessment to determine their level of attainment. A rubric will be used to
determine if they are emerging in the skill, developing in the skill, or secure
with the skill. Student work product may also be used as an assessment.
Instructional Delivery The main method of instructional delivery will be face-to-face. The CBT
method for Course will be used to practice and reinforce what is being taught.

Instructional Strategy Direct instruction with modeling and the use of music and songs will be the
for RLO main instructional strategies along with practice activities with immediate
feedback. The overall feel for the learner will be in the context of a game.

Course Structure This is a standards based curriculum with the expectation that the students
Description will be secure in the TOs by the end of the academic year. The instruction
will progress through the TOs from the largest parts of sounds of words
through progressively smaller sound parts. The instruction may also be
cyclical and cycle back through skills as a review depending on what other
skills are being presented. The instruction will follow the sequence:
Seat Time of Course The academic year is 180 days. The students attend school 7 hours a day, 5
days a week. Whole-group direct instruction of the phonological awareness
skills, or TOs, is conducted in 10-minute chunks once or twice a day for a
maximum of 20-minutes of whole-group direct instruction. Materials and
activities that support learning of the TOs are utilized and available
throughout the day during other instructional activities and for free-choice
exploration.
