Leadership Involvement Service Diversity

The Office of Student Engagement & Diversity is seeking a UNLV student to fulfill the position of Multimedia
Specialist with a provisional start date of July 31, 2017. Student Engagement & Diversity is driven by the core
values of Leadership, Involvement, Service, and Diversity. The office provides educational endeavors, resources,
and involvement opportunities guided by an unwavering commitment to social justice, community building,
diversity, civic engagement, leadership, and global perspective enacted through a holistic learning environment
that engages students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Purpose
This position is responsible for the timely and consistent completion of various photo, video, and sound editing
projects which will be used to promote department marketing and branding initiatives. The student holding this
position must have a comprehensive video and photo editing skill set, including expertise in one or more
professional photo and video editing software programs (i.e. Adobe Premiere, Lightroom, After Effects, Final
Cut, Corel Video Studio, Sony Vegas, iMovie, etc). Additionally, this individual should have the ability to
manipulate and edit existing media for use in video editing software. This person must have knowledge in video
concept building and be adept in operating photo and video equipment, including Nikon cameras, tripods, studio
lighting, microphones, and more. This person will communicate with full-time and student staff on a frequent
basis through email, phone, and in-person meetings. The Multimedia Specialist must take initiative to create
their own tasks, meet deadlines, and be available to capture photos and videos at two department programs or
events each week.

Minimum Qualifications
o Must be available to work at least 10 hours per week
o Experience capturing photos in a diverse range of environments
o Advance proficiency with a video and photo editing software of choice
o Advance knowledge of the multimedia production process
o Ability to effectively operate photo and video equipment
o Ability to generate original content and ideas (creativity)
o Maintain a minimum 2.25 cumulative GPA and 2.0 semester GPA (Campus Life GPA Policy)
o Must be enrolled as an undergraduate student taking a minimum of 6 credits at UNLV
o In good standing with the university and the Office of Student Conduct

Preferred Qualifications
o Passion for student engagement, diversity, and values consistent with the offices core values
o Ability to multitask, prioritize, with excellent time management and problem-solving skills
o Ability to adapt to sudden changes in workflow
o Flexible schedule outside of academic responsibilities
o Optional: Familiarity with the following software: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign

Tasks
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
o Capture high quality photos and videos at department programs and events with professional equipment
o Edit photos and videos for use in department marketing and branding initiatives
o Work with supervisor to brainstorm new video concepts

o Work with internal clients with diverse perspectives to execute their project ideas
o Collaborate with student graphic designers for complex multimedia projects
o Organize and archive photos and videos through a centralized, shared digital system
o Advise student and full-time staff on how to effectively operate multimedia equipment
o Administrative tasks and other duties as assigned

Types of Multimedia Projects


o Frequent event photography
o Individual portraits and group photos
o Student life and involvement videos for social media and presentations
o Event recap, highlight, and preview videos
o Time-lapse, interview, and documentary-style videos
o Combining existing media from multiple sources

Criteria for Success

Learning Outcomes and Evaluation


Students in this position will learn the following over the course of their employment:

o Develop time management skills that will help me prioritize tasks and responsibilities in a timely manner

o Improve my ability to plan and organize projects, communicate with others, build leadership skills, manage
stress, understand and appreciate human differences, and recognize the role of technology in the workplace

Student staff are evaluated (supervisor, self-evaluation, client surveys) based on transparent criteria after their
first six weeks and every semester thereafter. Exit interviews are conducted upon separation of employment.

Pay rate: $10.00 per hour | Hours: 10 per week (possibility of up to 15 hours during peak times)
