Real Length and Design Length

A part can have a different length from the one that was initially defined because the operations on its
extremes make the real dimensions of the part vary. In these cases, properties window displays both
lengths. It is only possible to edit the design length. Whenever the design length is modified, the real
length will be recalculated once the changes are applied and part operations updated.

NESTING New Features Lantek Expert

GENERAL

Manage Priorities for Inventory Beams

It is possible to assign priorities for beams whenever the user is not using the management system
inventory. In order to do so, it is necessary to indicate the system to manage priorities for beams in the
configuration parameters of the nesting.

If this parameter is active, in the beam lists available in the inventory, the system will display the priority
column. In the creation and/or modification of inventory beams windows, it will be possible to set the
priority of each beam.

Beams available in a job:

24
New Features Lantek Flex3d 2016 SP3

Update inventory in a job: New Features Lantek Expert

The nesting algorithm will take into account the priority for the selection of beams. The zero value
indicates the maximum priority and the higher the values are, the lower priority is. When remnants are
generated, these will take the priority of the original beam.

Rotations in X for Round and Square Tubes

Between the existing manual options for the nesting edition, the ones corresponding to the rotation
have been extended. Whenever the selected nesting has one of these formats, the rotation command
icon will display the rotation angle to be applied in each execution, as shown below:

25
New Features Lantek Flex3d 2016 SP3

New Features Lantek Expert

The angle by default is 180. By clicking on the arrow, the system will
display a drop-down list where the user will be able to select the
required rotation angle.
The available options are:
Round tube: 180, 90, 45, 30, 10, 5, 1, -1, -5, -10, -30, -45, -90

Square tube: 180, 90, -90

Nesting and Machining in Common Cut with Islands

During the automatic nesting, the system will search for the best part rotations so that machining
islands can be attained.

The system will create an island whenever

possible, when two parts nested in common cut
have matching contours in their extremes in
contact. In this case, the final point of a contour
in the first part would coincide with the initial
point of a contour of the second part;
meanwhile, the final point of this part coincides
with the initial point of the first part.

Common cut instruction between both parts is combined with the instructions of the islands obtained
during the nesting, getting a unique instruction of parts separation. This instruction always starts in one
of the islands and includes the lead-in defined in the part, if there is one.

26
New Features Lantek Flex3d 2016 SP3

The machining order is as illustrated below (unfolded view):

New Features Lantek Expert

3.1.3.1 Forced Rotation to Obtain Islands

If it is not possible to obtain an island when nesting a part, but if rotating the part allows it, the system
will execute this rotation automatically. For example, in the nesting shown below, the first part is
initially placed without rotating it (in Z):

Whenever a new part is introduced in the nesting, the system detects that it is possible to create an
island by rotating the first part as illustrated below:

Sawing Compensation by Material and/or Format

In the sawing advanced settings, it is possible to indicate a sawing thickness value based on the
material or the format type to be cut. This thickness value will be used as sawing compensation when
making the nesting and this will determine the distance between two parts whenever these ones are
sawed in common cut.

In order to define the saw thickness value, it is necessary to indicate it in the advanced settings window
of the saw data, in the machine configuration section:

If there is a line in this table that corresponds to the material and format type to be cut, the saw
thickness defined in this line will be used as compensation. In another case, the default compensation
value will be used instead.

Sawing Time Calculation

Up to now, for each sawing, the system assigned a fixed time defined in the configuration time file
(*.TM?).

Now the system asks the user whether there is a saw advanced setting and searches in the saw data
table the feed to be applied. The feed can be indicated in the following three ways:

1. Unique value of feed.

2. Different feeds based on the quality and the cutting area.
3. Depending on the material and format type of the profile to be cut, the user will need to specify the
cutting speed (m/min) and the number of teeth per inch of the saw to be used. Based on this data and
taking into account the area of the sawing, the system will automatically calculate a feed, which will
be used for the time calculation of every sawing.

In order to indicate the method that will be used to calculate times, there is a window, which allows
accessing to the advanced settings of the saw data table:

29
New Features Lantek Flex3d 2016 SP3

New Features Lantek Expert

In this window, the user should indicate:

Criteria: This section allows defining which parameters must be taken into account in order to
assign saw data to a specific sawing. Either it can be by material to be cut, format type to be
cut, cutting width to be done or the combination of several attributes.

If the user selects Type as criteria, it would be necessary to assign a type for every profile format in the
system so it is easier to identify it. It is possible to manage up to 20 types. The user can access to the
profile types management using the Type button in the Saw data definition window in the machine
configuration section.

Saw data: Several data can be indicated here: ID, Saw material, Thickness, Diameter (circular
mills), Number of teeth, Speed, Rotation feed (circular mills).

Head feed: Here the user can specify the method in which the advanced speed will be
measured. As stated previously, it can be through a unique value, several values based on the
quality and the cutting area or on the number of teeth per inch.

Discretization According to the Angle Change of the Machine Axes

Turret Management and Drilling Tools

Now it is possible to define and assign turrets and drilling tools to tube cutting machines. There is a
new window in machine configuration in order to indicate whether the machine has a drilling station or
not. In this window, the user should also indicate the position of such station with regard to the cutting
station and whether the drillings will be executed once all the cutting contours have been machined or
in combination with them.

In Part Edition module there are new options to add and modify drill, tap and C. sink cycles.

For further information, refer to Tubes Reference Manual.

of the Machine Axes
Features Lantek Expert
Now it is possible to indicate a maximum angle change by machine rotation axis. This way, it will not be
necessary to indicate a very small segmentation tolerance so that extra machining vectors are
generated in the cuts of the corners of the format.

For instance, by indicating a maximum change of 10, the system will generate 10 intermediate vectors
for the machining of the corner of a square tube. However, with a maximum value of 2, the system will
generate 45 intermediate vectors.

Maximum change = 10 Maximum change = 2

MAXIMUM CHANGE OF ANGLE PER AXIS

Lead-in/lead-out Automatic Modification to Avoid Clamps

In machines that move the tube, whose cutting head does not have X axis and which is always located
to a fixed distance from the clamps, it will be possible to configure this distance.

This distance will be used during the automatic machining in order to relocate the lead-ins/lead-outs of
the part ends, avoiding that some of the parts that have been cut might be caught between the clamps
whenever the cut of extremes is finished.

For instance, in the part of the following image, the lead-in is out of the valid zone. Therefore, whenever
the contour machining is finished, the chuck would catch the material.

37
New Features Lantek Flex3d 2016 SP3

New Features Lantek Expert

The automatic machining will relocate the lead-in as shown in the following image:

The system will divide into two the extremes of two consecutive parts and will alternate them avoiding
that, during the cut of the second part, the extreme already cut gets into the clamp zone.

In the example displayed in the image below, if during the machining of part 2, part 1 has not been
evacuated, it could be caught in the clamp zone:

38
New Features Lantek Flex3d 2016 SP3

New Features Lantek Expert

In order to avoid this situation, during the automatic machining, the contours of the extremes of both
parts are broken into pieces and reordered as shown below:

Break Contours to Avoid Holes in Chuck
From now on, it will be possible to configure to Break Contours to avoid holes in Chuck in machines
that move the tube whose head does not have X-axis and there is a fixed distance to the chuck
configured.

Whenever this parameter is enabled, the system will check whether the chuck passes over any of the
cutting contours of the part and will try to order the cutting process in order to prevent the chuck from
holding cavities without part.

If the system does not find a proper order, it will then look for those contours that the chuck passes
over, break them and finally reorder the last cut of such contour so that the cutting order is safe for the
chuck.

Extremes Machining in L Type Formats

In part machining, extremes are fully machined and the cut of the flange will not finish in the flange
thickness.

In nesting machining, the first of the extreme cuts will be shortened up to the thickness. Cuts will be
ordered as follows:

If one of the cuts is not straight, the first extreme cut will be the straight cut.

If both cuts are straight, it will depend on the previous cut to avoid rotations on the beam.

If it is the first cut of the beam, the system will start from the shortest side of the L.

MACHINING

TUBES

New Machining Mode for Holes in Round Tubes with 5-Axis Machines
When it comes to generating the machining of a round tube with 5-Axis machines, the tube rotation
and head position are calculated on the basis of the following principles:

If the height difference (h) of the contour is lower than Z, the tube rotation and cutting head
position will be calculated by leaving the vectors parallel to Z.

In the case of being higher, the tube will be rotated until the hole center is located in the tube
center (Y=0). If in this position, the height difference (h) of the contour is lower than the value
indicated in Z, the system will keep this tube rotation and calculate the cutting head position
per each vector.

62
New Features Lantek Flex3d 2016 SP3

New Features Lantek Expert

If the height difference is still higher, the system will calculate the tube rotation and the cutting
head position in such a way that each cutting position is located in the middle of the tube (Y=0).

significantly. This new parameter is useful in those cases in which high thickness tubes and especially
their extremes have to be cut.

2.2.3.2 Welding Preparation

So far, this option was not operating correctly and the required corrections have been executed so that
the welding preparation can be used in any format, either of tubes of profiles.

Vectors Correction

Collisions are not verified and therefore, the head may collide
with the tube in the resulting machining.

Collisions are corrected by modifying only those vectors that

previously showed a collision.

Collisions are corrected by modifying vectors from a defined

distance (d) and subsequently, also takes into account this
distance. Generating profressive and soft movements
between both positions. This option entails that the cut is not
as perpendicular as the previous one.

Collisions are corrected by modifying the previous and

subsequent vectors progressively, however, the system will
keep/maintain the same constant vector during the internal
curvature.

Tolerances for Format Recognition

During the import process of 3D geometry files (SAT, STEP, IGES, etc.), the system will automatically
recognize the format of each part to be imported and will try to assign a compatible one from the
Database. It may be the case that the dimensions of the part format do not coincide exactly with the
format existing in the database, but that the difference is not substantial. For these cases, an option to
increase the tolerances for the format assignment has been included, so that the user can select
between those formats equivalent with the indicated tolerance.

In order to apply these tolerances there is a new command in base profile and format selection
windows. Whenever one or several tolerances are applied, the list of base profiles or formats will be
reloaded with those compatible based on these tolerances.

The user can indicate different tolerances based on the type of format. In all instances, it will be
possible to indicate a tolerance for the main dimensions (width, height) and the thickness. If the format
has a rounding radius, there will be a tolerance for this radius. The linear tolerance used to compare
geometries can be modified in shape formats.
