Present tense

Simple present:

Rules: I /We /They /He /She /It /You


+
1st form of verb (Go, By, Bring)

We use simple present tense. When we talk about our daily


activity, any truth, fact, figures, quotes, phrases, leisure time
activity or whenever we talk about anything in general.

Singulars we use (S/ES)


Plural we do not use (S/ES)

Examples:

Positive sentence:

• He sings a song.
• We go for a walk everyday.
• I read a book everyday.
• They play football everyday.

Negative sentence:

• You do not go back.


• He does not walk everyday.
• They do not cook food.
• We do not go for shopping.

Interrogative sentence: We always start interrogative sentence with


Do/Does.

• Does Sita go for a walk?


• Do children play cricket?
• Do you eat food?
• Does he sing a song?

Note: We use Do in plural sentence and Does in singular sentence.


Present continuous

Rules: He /She /It /We /They /You + is /am /are

+1st form of verb + Ing

We use present continuous tense to talk about those activities, which


we are doing right now or presently.

Singulars + is + 1st form + Ing

Plurals + are + 1st form of verb + Ing

Examples:-

Positive sentence:

• She is singing a song.


• Ram is playing a Cricket.
• They are coming with us.
• Children are flying their kites in the air.

Negative sentence:

• They are not coming with us.


• Steve is not playing a Piano.
• She is not talking with us.
• We are not going to the market.

Interrogative sentence:

• Are they playing cricket?


• Is she coming with us?
• Are you going for walk?
• Is Jack studying?

Present perfect tense

I/HE/SHE/IT/YOU/WE/THEY + HAS/HAVE

3rd form of verb

We use present perfect tense in those situations, when we talk about


those activities and events which are being done or completed recently.
Whenever we talk about our education qualification, academic
background, and lifetime achievements etc.

Singulars + has + 3rd form of verb.

Plurals + Have + 3rd form of verb.

Example:

Positive sentence:

• Steve has eaten an apple.


• Children have caught the thief.
• Bob has gone to the airport.
• He has done his work.

Negative sentence:

• Jack has not gone for a walk.


• They have not played very well.
• Bob has not red the newspaper.
• Students have not attended the class.

Interrogative sentence:

• Have they played cricket?


• Has she taken paper?
• Has he driven his car?

Present perfect continuous

I/He/she/it/they/you/we + Has/Have + Been

1st form of verb + Ing + since/for

We use present perfect continuous in those situations when we talk


about long time activities .We use Since in those kind of time which is
uncountable .Such as: since morning ,since December ,since 1956 .We
use For in case of countable time .Such as: for 6months ,for 3hours ,for
2dacades.

Singulars + has + been + 1st form + Ing + since/for

Plurals + Have + been + 1st form + Ing + since/for

Examples:

Positive sentence:

• I have been looking for a job since last year.


• I have been waiting for a bus for 2 hours.
• He has been running for 1 hour.
• They have been working in Software Company, since 2005.

Negative sentence:

• Martin has not been doing his work for 2 hours.


• People of Redwood village have not been visiting in shopping
centre since last week.
• Bob has not been going for a walk.

Interrogative sentence:

• Have you been looking for a job?


• Has Sam been eating a food for 2 days?
• Have children been playing football?
Past Tense
Simple past

He/she/it/you/I/they/we +2nd form of verb

In Did/did not always use 1st form of verb

We use simple past tense in that situation when we talk about


something that we did in recently.

Examples:

Positive sentence:

• Children made game more interesting.


• Jack went to school.
• People woke up at 7’o clock.
• Sam ate his breakfast.

Negative sentence:

• She did not go for walk.


• Children did not do their work.
• People did not know the traffic rules.
• Sam did not eat his food.

Interrogative sentence:

• Did she come with us?


• Did children play cricket?
• Did Sam write a letter?
• Did they go to school?

Past continuous

He/she/it/we/they/i/you +was/were

+ 1st form of verb + Ing

We use past continuous tense in those situations, which we were doing


in past for some period or continuously.

Singulars +was + 1st form + Ing.

Plurals + were + 1st form + Ing.

Examples:

Positive sentence:

• She was eating her food, when I went to her home.


• Children were playing in the class, when the teacher enters the
class.
• Jack was repairing his boat, yesterday.
• Charlie was singing a song, when I went to his room.

Negative sentence:

• Jin was not writing a novel because he was not feeling good.
• People were chattering in the hall because they were not busy.
• Kate was not feeling very well, so she could not come to concert.
• Sam was not repairing his house, yesterday.

Interrogative sentence:

• Was Jack driving his car?


• Were children doing their work?
• Was Sam coming to the party?
• Was James sleeping?

Past perfect

He/she/it/we/you/they/I

+ had + 3rd form of verb

We use past perfect tense to talk about those activities and events,
which happened recently or before now. Sometimes we may use
simple past tense instead of past perfect tense and the meaning would
remain same, it will not change.

Examples:

Past perfect: I had taken my breakfast at 9am yesterday.

Simple past: I took my breakfast at 9am yesterday.

Examples:

Positive sentence:

• I had done my work yesterday.


• Students had gone for a trip yesterday morning.
• He had completed his book yesterday evening.
• She had eaten banana yesterday.

Negative sentence:

• I had not done my work yesterday.


• Children had not gone for walk yesterday.
• People had not followed the traffic rules.
• Sam had not eaten his dinner last night.

Interrogative sentence:

• Had she eaten her food?


• Had they gone to the Market?
• Had we written a letter yesterday?
• Had she seen the thief?

Past perfect continuous

I/he/she/it/we/they/you + had +been

+1st form of verb +Ing + since/for

We use past perfect continuous in those situation when we talk about


anything that we had been doing in past for some time period and is
done recently.
Examples:

Positive sentence:

• I had been waiting for Sam since one month. He is arrived now.
• People had been eating for 1 hour. They just stop now.
• Jack had been writing his book for two years. He had finished.

Negative sentence:

• They had not been going with us because they are busy.
• She had not been waiting for Ben because he had already gone.
• Children had not been playing cricket since a week ago because
they do not bat.

Interrogative sentence:

• Had they been driving a car?


• Had she been cutting trees?
• Had they been working in the office for one hour?
Future tense

Simple future

He/she/I/we/they/you

+ will/shall + 1st form of verb

We use simple future tense to talk about any event and activity, which
we will do in future or whenever we talk about future.

We use Going to word in those situation that will do something recently


in future.

Example:

Positive sentence:

• She will dance.


• Children will come tonight.
• People will go to concert.
• Jack will take his medicine.
Negative sentence:

• He shall not drink wine.


• Sam will not come to the festival, as he is ill.
• They will not dance together.
• I will not go to the party.

Interrogative sentence:

• Will she come with us?


• Will they play cricket?
• Shall we eat together?
• Shall I meet him together?

Future continuous

I/we/you/they/he/she + will/shall

+ be + 1st form of verb + Ing

We use future continuous tense in those situations that we will do in


future for some time period.

Example:

Positive sentence:

• I will be doing my homework.


• I will be joining this company next week.
• She will be dancing together tonight.
• People shall be following the traffic rules.

Negative sentence:

• I will not be joining this company.


• Students will not be going to college tomorrow.
• He shall not be wearing red dress on concert.

Interrogative sentence:

• Shall we be participating in the dance party?


• Will he be going to China?
• Will they be joining the company?

Future perfect

He/she/it/they/we/you/I + will/shall

+ Have + 3rd form of verb

We use future perfect tense in those situations when we talk about


those activities that we will be doing continuously and will have
completed recently in future.

Examples:

Positive sentence:
• I will have finished my homework, tomorrow morning.
• They shall have gone to the airport at 7 pm.
• We will have done with our assignments tomorrow evening.
• He will have finished his trip to Bangkok tomorrow at 9pm.

Negative sentence:

• They will not have completed their work on next Monday.


• I shall not have done with my car repair till yesterday.
• I will not have gone to the party at 7pm tomorrow.

Interrogative sentence:

• Will she have finished her home work in next day?


• Shall we have done our assignments in next Friday?
• Will they have joined the meeting tomorrow?

Future perfect continuous

I/we/you/he/she/it/they + will/shall

+ have + been + 1st form of verb + Ing

We use future perfect continuous tense in those situation when we talk


about any work that we will be doing in future form some time period.
Examples:

Positive sentence:

• We will have been going to the party tomorrow evening.


• They will have been repairing their house on next Sunday.
• You will have been traveling to New York next year.
• I shall have been watching movie with my friends tomorrow.

Negative sentence:

• They will not have been doing their homework.


• I shall not have been going to watch movie.
• You will not have been traveling to China tomorrow.

Interrogative sentence:

• Will you have been going to the Christmas party tomorrow?


• Shall we have been traveling to China next week?
• Will he have been start eating regular food after dieting?
• Will they have been working together in the same company?
