COURSE EXPECTATION

This course is a challenge for me. A new chapter that has opened for the term.
New learnings and new applications of what was learned in school. CE198-3R is the
last Practicum in our curriculum in Civil Engineering. It is also known as On the Job
Training where we were asked to go to a construction site specifically in a horizontal
project such as roads and highways. On the site, we are expected to acquire all the
knowledge need to be known and the practicality of work done. With the supervision of
the engineer in-charge, we will be required to know the round-about of the project.
The moment I enrolled in this course, I felt excitement. This is new to me
compare to the last two OJT that pertains to vertical structures. I will be going to a site
that may take a long ride to go there or might take a long walk. Lucky for me because I
have a fear of heights. I most likely prefer to work on a horizontal structure that work on
a high rise building. Despite of excitement to work on this ojt, I am also wondering on
how will I apply all the theories that I have learned in class. I am also curious about the
methods acquired in a construction site. What measure would it take them to
accomplish a work on time. What are the causes of delays and as to how are they being
compensated? I also want to know what are the common problems of a general
contractor and to compare the work of public and private.
We were given 80 hours of training in the site and in that time, I expect to learn a
lot of things in this course especially how to operate a construction of Roads and
Highways. We expect to know more to the project Engineer on how he/ she will manage
the construction project, on what are the things and materials will be used in
constructing roads and highways.
T our professor, Engr. Raul Asis, I expect that he will be considerate for he knows
the delays of all the public construction. And that he is well aware that not all the data
needed will be given to us by the construction department or the general contractor.
Before the term ends, I hope that each of us will share their knowledge that they have
learned in every construction firm that they applied. I hope that those learnings will be
used in the future as we will become a better civil engineer in our country.
