Conclusions

1. From above experiment it is concluded that the soil specimen-1 is silt with low
plasticity and soil sample-2 is clay with low plasticity which is determined after
conducting specific gravity test, liquid limit test, plastic limit test and particle size
distribution test.
2. Cohesion and optimum moisture content response of silt (soil sample-1) and clay (soil
sample-2) by adding glass fiber has been studied. The behaviour of the silt and clay
changed into a ductile one. The addition of the glass fiber to the silt and clay
specimens results in substantial increase in cohesion and internal angle friction of the
soil. The findings of this study have the practical significance in ground improvement
techniques, with respect to use as a subgrade, embankment and other applications.
3. Direct shear test indicate that the shear strength of the glass fiber reinforced soil is
increased with increase in glass fiber which is improved over the unreinforced soil.
4. From the optimum moisture curve of different soil by adding glass fiber indicate that
it decrease the moisture content of the soil with respect to the unreinforced soil.
Because the water present in the soil is absorbed by the glass fiber. Thus it improves
the load bearing capacity of the soil.
5. From above result it can be predicted that the soil with addition glass fiber imparts
greater strength to the soil as compared to unreinforced soil so it can be used in
construction.
