My objective is to be employed as a substitute or part- time teacher, or librarian


in the fall of 2017. I am dedicated to creating art and music and nurturing life
long learners.

Teaching Experience:

3RD FIELD EXPERIENCE PLACEMENT FALL 2016:


Earl Oxford School CT: Erin Dodds
During this placement, I was responsible for teaching and leading the grade 8 East
side Band students. This group was comprised of over 100 students from 7 different
schools. I was a guest conductor for their Remembrance Day Service. I also assisted in
all 5 grade seven classes that were taught and helped beginners in learning their
instruments and progressing to moving into reading music.

2ND FIELD EXPERIENCE PLACEMENT- SPRING 2016:


Elton Collegiate CT: Lisa Vasconcelos
During this placement, I taught two grade nine English classes, Reading is Thinking,
and 9 12 drama classes. I also observed and assisted a grade nine science class,
careers class and grade7,8, and 10 band. I feel like I flourished in the role of a
classroom teacher and gained a great deal of confidence at this placement

1ST FIELD EXPERIENCE PLACEMENT- FALL 2015:


Ecole secondaire Neelin High School CT: Carolyn Gwyer
During my first placement, I taught and lead warm-ups for several ensembles,
including Girls Chamber choir, Boys Chamber choir, Brandon School division middle
years choir, Simple Green, and the Neelin Concert choir. I also taught a music theory
course and the following semester was hired by Miss Gwyer to mark theory
assignments. I also was invited to be a Special Guest conductor with the Boys
Chamber choir for their annual Winter Wassail.

Other Teaching Experience: On several occasions, I have had the opportunity to


teach both individuals and groups of students. This includes acting as a flute clinician
for students of varying skill levels and ages (2001 present). I taught private flute
lessons through the Brandon University Conservatory (2002 2004). I have also
assisted a drawing class at the Armstrong Art space, a non-profit organization
dedicated to providing services and a space for people with mental illness to create art
(2014).

Experience working with Children: During University, I was employed by the


Brandon YMCA as a paddle pool attendant (2001 2004) and as a playroom
supervisor (2001 2002). In both positions, I interacted with children, ensuring their
safety and well-being and planned activities for them, such as games and craft
making.

Interpersonal Skills: I have interacted with and served the public through many
different employments over the years. Some of these include working at the Margaret
Laurence Home Museum (1997 2001), Marys Bread Basket (2006-2007),
Thunderbird Bowl and Huggys restaurant (2004- 2006), the Pita Pit (2007 2009),
Glocanada sunglass kiosk (2010) and Rickis (2007). In these positions, I gained
experience operating cash registers, doing inventory, opening and closing the store as
well as maintaining store cleanliness and appearance. I am active in community music
groups and have played in over 20 community musicals.

Organizational Skills: I have held several positions where I have been asked to
design and maintain organizational systems. I was employed in the John E. Robbins
Library at Brandon University (2001 2004), working in both the main and music
departments. I have organized several other music libraries including the private
music library of Dr. Wendy McCallum (2009), the Brandon University Large Ensemble
Library (2009), the Brandon University Conservatory Library (2009) and the Neelin
High School music Library (2004-2006). In these positions I was responsible for filing,
sorting and re-shelving materials, shelf-reading, cataloguing, and creating databases. I
am currently employed as a personal assistant to Ryan Hrabliuk, a local businessman
(private contractor and co-owner of Delcon Ltd.) and entrepreneur (2012 present).
Duties fulfilled in this position include filing as well as managing accounts, employee
hours and information.

Volunteer/ Community Experience: Throughout my entire adult life I have been


involved in many projects as a volunteer in the Brandon Community. Some of the
volunteer experiences I have had include Brandon jazz Festival Hospitality (2000
2003), Central United Church Choir (2000-2005), Mecca Community Choir and
Productions (2002 present), Brandon Folk Music and Art Festival (2009 present)
and being the secretary for the Armstrong Art space (2012 present).

Education:

I attended Neepawa and Area Collegiate Institute and graduated June


1999. I then attended Brandon University and received a Specialist degree in
Music Education. I have an English minor and attained 15 credit hours in the
Fine Arts Department. I graduated in May of 2004 and received the Brandon
University silver medal for having the best academic performance and a grade
point average over 3.5 in my program. I also received the Jack Spalding Family
Bursary in Music (2003), the Brandon University Students Union Bursary (2002),
the D. Wright Scholarship in Music Education (2001), the General Proficiency
Scholarship in Second Year Music (2000), the G.F. Macdowell entrance scholarship
and the Brandon University Board of Governors Entrance Scholarship. I also
graduated with distinction and been on the honors list several times. In 2015 I
began my education degree at Brandon University and I shall graduate in the
spring of 2017. During this degree, I have been placed on the Deans Honour
list and been inducted into the Presidents Honour Society and maintain a 4.0
gpa.
