James Publishing Search Tour

The James Publishing Search program is a powerful application utilizing the

Alchemy Search software. This tour should point you in the right direction
during your use of the James Publishing Search program.

For more information regarding the use of the James Publishing Search
program, please refer to the Help Menu within the program. To access this
feature, click on Help menu and select Contents.

Getting Started

When you first start the James Publishing Search program, a window will
open which contains three distinct sections. On the far left is the Tree View,
which allows you to see all of the documents available for your search. On the
top right of the window is the Viewer. The Viewer allows you to see any
document you are interested in. The bottom right section features the Profile
of each document. While both the Tree View and Viewer are essential, the
Profile section is not as valuable. You can easily remove the Profile section
from the window by deselecting it under the View menu.

Along the top, under the menu bar, is a strip of buttons for the most
commonly used functions. As you move the pointer over these buttons, James
Publishing Search displays a short description in the balloon help and also on
the status line at the bottom left of the window.

Buttons

The buttons found here are some of the most used functions.

Change View

These three buttons allow you to select which of the three viewing tools you
would like to have active. The buttons, from left to right, represent the Tree
View, Viewer and Profile, respectively.

Print Current Document

5
Clicking this button will print the document currently displayed in the Viewer
or selected in the Tree View. Be careful with this tool since some documents
are much longer than others.

Launch Application

The Launch Application feature opens files in their native application. This is
ideal for files that cannot be viewed in the James Publishing Search program,
or when the programs built-in viewer is not sufficient.

This function is also ideal when you wish to use and manipulate a form file.
After making changes to the form, you can select Save As in your word
processing program and save the manipulated file to a new location.

Search

Clicking on the Search function opens up the search dialog window. Once you
have opened the Search function, you have the option of performing an
Advanced Search or a Simple Search by toggling in between the two by
clicking on the binocular icon at the top left of the Search window. For most
users, the Simple Search will be sufficient.

Previous and Next Document

These buttons allow you to go to the previous or next document according to

the list in the Tree View.

Back and Forward

Just as with your Internet browser, these buttons allow you to go to back and
forth between documents in your viewed document list.

Settings

6
The settings function allows you to customize the program to your
preferences on a number of different items.

Frequently Asked Questions:

I clicked OK to run Search.exe but nothing is happening. What do I do?

Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the program to begin running. Please
be patient and wait for the program to begin.

Can I copy the forms on the CD-ROM to my hard drive?

Yes, but you dont need to do so. The CD-ROM serves as a library from which
you may select the forms you need. Copying the forms to your hard drive may
occupy too much of your hard drive space and we advise against copying all
the files to your hard drive for that reason.

Can I share this CD-ROM with other people?

This CD-ROM and its contents are copyrighted by James Publishing, Inc. This
CD-ROM is a single-user disk. No duplication of this CD-ROM or any portion
thereof for republication or distribution is permitted. This CD-ROM is licensed
to the book purchaser for his or her single-screen use only.

Why cant I see a database when I open the Search program?

If no database appears in the Search program, simply click on File in the
menu along the top of the window, then choose Open Database. Click on
Browse then File System and select the CD-ROM drive. Then select the
database titled pid.ald which has a small CD icon next to it and click
Open.

Why am I having formatting problems?

Please be aware that not all computers and printers are set up the same way,
and we have tried to accommodate how the majority of these systems
operate. We cannot anticipate every configuration that may occur, though.
Therefore, how the documents print may be slightly different than how they
appear on screen. You may need to insert or remove page breaks as
necessary to suit your particular printing needs.

Im still having trouble. Is there someone I can contact for technical support?
If you still have questions after reading the entire contents of the blue pages,
you may contact us with any questions. Call us at (714) 755-5450 or send a
detailed email to us at techsupport@jamespublishing.com. Please be very
specific about the problem you are having.

Disclaimer: When running the Search program, first-time users might

encounter a prompt regarding an installation of files onto your computer.
Please note that the program is simply updating existing files on your
computer in order for the search feature to function properly. The program
will not be installed on your computer.
