Electric Circuits Laboratory

In the Electrical Circuit Lab students can create their own electrical circuits and do measurements on it. In the
circuits the students can use resistors, light bulbs, switches, capacitors and coils. The circuits can be powered by a
AC/DC power supply or batteries. There is an ammeter, voltmeter, wattmeter and an ohmmeter. There is also a
version of the Electrical Circuit Lab in which data can be collected. Students can analyze the collected data by
creating graphs of the data and use the graphs in the conclusion tool.

Electrical Machines Laboratory

The Electrical Machines Laboratory supports teaching; research and consultancy work on Electrical machines and
drives. Through hands-on experiments with real machines, students gain practical experience on transformers and
various types of machine drives. The laboratory can also be used for project work related to electrical machines
and energy conversion.
The four main purpose of an electrical machines laboratory are

To provide the student with practical knowledge of handling the electrical machines.
To correlate the theoretical classroom treatment with actual machine characteristics.
To demonstrate the most suitable testing techniques.
To educate engineer researchers and to conduct research in all aspects of electrical and electromechanical
energy conversion.

The laboratory has

1. D.C. Motors and Generators

2. 3 Phase Induction Motors, (Squirrel cage and slipring type)
3. 3 Phase Synchronous machines
4. Single phase & 3 Phase Transformers
5. 1 Phase Induction Motors (Various types)
6. Cut sections of actual machines like
D.C. motors
Generators
A.C. motors
Generators, associated with well-designed panels and informative displays.

The Machines laboratory is supported with large capacity three phase A.C. to D.C. rectifier unit to supply D.C.
power. The machines laboratory is well equipped with all kinds of measuring instruments also.
The laboratory is utilized for conducting various practical courses like DC Machines Lab, AC Machines Lab,
Transformers Lab and Controls Lab. The experiments like Load test, Swinburnes test and speed control are done
on DC Motors. DC generator setup is used to conduct Open circuit and Load characteristics, Hopkinsons test and
transfer function. Open Circuit & Short Circuit Test Sumpners Test, Polarity test and Load test were conducted on
single phase and three phase transformers. Single phase & three phase Induction Motors were used to conduct
Load test, Speed Control, No load & Blocked Rotor test. The experiments like Voltage regulation, Slip test, Load
test and V-Curve & Inverted V-Curve Characteristics can be conducted on Synchronous machines.

Control and Instrumentation Laboratory

The Control Systems Laboratory aims to assist and promote teaching and experimental research in the fields of
automatic control systems, robotics, nonlinear systems and circuits design, optimization and related technologies,
targeting both academic leadership and commercial and industrial applications.

This is the lab which is very important for the basic knowledge about the various instruments with facilities for the
group of 30 students to carry out experiments independently. The lab is well equipped and enables students to
understand the fundamentals of various measuring instruments.

Major Equipment in Measurement and instrumentation Lab:- LVDT( Linear Variable differential
transformer), Thermocouple, Bourdon type pressure gauge, Resistance strain gauge, Pneumatic Pressure gauge,
optical devices.

Power Electronics and Drives Laboratory

Power Electronics Lab is a universal learning platform which is very useful for Students to understand the concept
of power electronics. Students can perform experiments like VI characteristics of the power electronic devices,
single phase controlled rectifiers, DC-DC choppers etc. This Lab is provided with a bread board for testing their
own circuits. Power Electronics Lab is provided with built-in AC & DC power supplies and exhaustive learning
material. Power Electronics Lab is an ideal platform to enhance education, training, skills & development
among our young minds.

Power system simulation laboratory

The laboratory is well equipped to meet the requirements of undergraduate as well as graduate studies and research
work. Practical demonstrations by lab experiments for power system generation, transmission and distribution
concepts. Students are familiarized with the use of digital computer in the different aspects of power system
analysis by using different software programs such as Mathcad and MATLAB and PSCAD.
