where the body was found. Setting is important,
out with evidence, visiting places. There are often
names and occupation/relation to person that
appear during interviews.
Real people are involved instead of actors unless
there is a reconstruction of what happened or
they use an actor to protect identities.

Establishing shots of the areas in which they

visit, highlighting poverty and causes empathy
during the monologue over the top. This makes
the audience feel sympathetic and are more
likely to pay attention.
Showing of locations before entering helps to
allow the audience to feel as though they are
there as it helps to create realism and also helps
to show all angles of the story.

Low key lighting connotes the somber mood of

the documentary - dark topic explored.
Mid to close up shots used - simplistic, depth of
field focused on the presenter causing what they
say to have more impact as there is no
distractions in the background. Signifies
importance.
 Voiceover during this montage telling stories of
the sequence - helps to entice the audience as
the montage seems lighthearted which contrasts
to the difficult subject which is approached in the
documentary.

Hand held camera causing shaky camera shots

help to connote realism and truth - less formal
and lower budget.

Eye level shot connotes the scene being

observed by a human which adds to the realism
of the documentary.

Summing up of ideas and points, concluding

everything mentioned in the documentary,
highlighting the point of why it was made.
Followed by things to think about in the future
and improvements that could be made to rectify
the situation.

In conclusion, I have been able to note that there are certain aspects such as the
font choice and the structure that would be helpful to pay attention to while watching
other documentaries to make cross references. In doing this I will be able to
compare the different documentaries/mockumentaries that I deconstruct and so I
shall be able to tell what the genre conventions are.
From this particular documentary, I have been able to pick out how the structure
works and the types of shots and scenes that are included within it which will help
me to know what things I should be aiming to put within my documentary that I am
making.
